Quiet day for #Isles, but armed w/ long list for tomorrow. Would not expect them to sit on sidelines. Forward and goaltender spots to fill.

No names revealed, but I'd expect them to be in on Emery, Khudobin, Nabokov in goal. Grabovski could be good fit up front.

his name keeps popping up with Isles...hmmmmmm

Tyler Seguin a Dallas Star? Wow giving up on a 21 yr old kid with his kind of talent!

Whats going on in the NHL? Clarkson demanding $6 mill or more! Briere gets $4 mil per. Vinnie $5 mil plus. Its insane IMO.

Tell me again why there was a Lock out?

TSN is predicting Emery will sign with Philly for 2 yrs @ $1.7 -$2.0 per? I think Emery would have to be crazy to return to that goalie graveyard called the Flyers. 21 goalies and counting since 1997.

I can live with that...Ryder may finally land here too.....rather than Grabbo..better give Nabby what he asked for I think, good teammate and played reg season well. Anything less than Nabby we may take step backwards.....like the sounds of the kid as well Khudobin

Isles' goalie concerns
July, 4, 2013

By Victoria Matiash | ESPN.com

However you slice it, the New York Islanders need to corral a netminder in the coming days; whether that means cajoling Evgeni Nabokov into re-signing or picking up a new figure via trade or the free agent market. Considering the lack of stellar free-agent choices, Chris McNally of Lighthouse Hockey suggests Islanders GM Garth Snow might make a run at an as-yet-unproven goalie -- ie. the Boston Bruins' current backup.

"... The first name that comes to mind is Anton Khudobin. Khudobin's numbers in the AHL were sketchy up until two seasons ago , when he had a .919 Save % in 44 games at Providence. His numbers in 21 NHL games (SMALL SAMPLE SIZE!) have been better, posting a .933 Save %. A red flag may be his Even Strength Save %, where his less than stellar .916% last year was the same as Nabokov's ..."

Maeanwhile, Newsday's Arthur Staple suggests veteran Johan Hedberg -- put on unconditional waivers/pegged for a compliance buyout by the New Jersey Devils -- could be a decent short-term solution for the Islanders.

"... Would imagine #Isles will keep Johan Hedberg in mind as an option should some other Gs sign elsewhere ..."

HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE????????

ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports forward Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers are near coming to terms on an eight-year deal worth close to $70 million.

First year of that deal wouldn't kick in until next year. The Flyers have A LOT of unsigned players for next year and this contract, along with Streit and LeCalvier will take a big bite

Hedberg? Really? That BETTER not be "the guy" we go to battle next season otherwise we may just as well not even watch. Snow better have a REAL goalie target come midnight.

The Flyers now have $52 million of the $64 million cap committed for the 2014-15 season.
This is despite having no goalie and several unfilled roster spots

Isles better forget Hedberg. I'll take Khudobin over him.

It's madness SCLI. t's only going to get worse since the Cap is going to be going up next year. The big boys wll be back to spending like drunk fools. I have no idea what this lockout was suppose to fix?

You and I have been going back and forth on twitter...do you think Snow would rather keep the 8 he has...so he has some spots on the Islanders the following year for some of his prospects (Pedan, Mayfield, deHaan or Reinhart) ?
- kear20

yes I think their are a lot of place holders in this lineup

More goalies off the market -

Montoya resigns with WPG 1 yr.

Emery to PHI - 2 yrs

Really starting to get nervous Hedberg is where the Isles are headed. I've bought into the koolaid this summer that the Isles were going to make some big moves and be players for some big names but, every time a player signs, all you hear from the Isles corner is "we inquired but..."

Well they said they wouldn't do much but goaltending is something we can't be with out. It's not some stupid fan demand its clearly something we need. The less goalies on the market the more I see Snow going into panic mode and signing nabby or something worse.

These owners can never cry again. The problem is you have owners like Snider. He could care less his decisions hurt many of the other owners. He does not want to be partners with the other owners. This is why there are always problems.

Hopefully this does not lead to a Miller overpayment. Isles need to fill holes. Overpay for a guy like Scuderi. No need to overpay for guys like Briere.
