Just the Pronger injury would have been fine..... Its the other dozen+ injuries over each of the last two seasons that killed us. 8 concussions in 2011-12 was only the beginning.... Hartnell, Briere, Grossmann, Mez, Coburn, Gus, Timonen, + last season. A healthy flyers team.... That's all I want this season.

Do you hear that Santa! A HEALTHY team!
I'm with you on that one.

The Streit move was non-sense. It got even worse now that they have signed Lecavalier (with a NMC). I find it really hard to keep all of their assets going forward. Couturier or Schenn alongside Read will probably be casualties. Giroux's new contract will cost at least $8.25M/year.

Who's playing G backup? Who's getting traded so you can fit in another contract for that?

Did you even read the blog? You have been trolling Bill's blogs an awful lot lately. You already know the answer to these dumb questions. Yun's must be awfully concerned about what is happening on our side if the state. Oh, and give my regards to the fruit bat. Oh wait, that's right. He's gone.

Laughton hasn't broken into the league yet, how can we bank on him carrying the load defensively? It's important to have a veteran like Talbot to do the yeoman's work.

Um.. Never implied that. Just meant I like when our 4th center can win a late D zone draw.

seriously, for the 2014-2015 season, 35.45 tied up on 5 players (Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Letang and Fleury). How do you even work around that?

It's amazing how everyone's an expert capologist except as it relates to their own teams' roster, isn't it?

You need both, youth and veterans. Talbot's not even thirty, so he's not the issue age-wise.

I know the Flyers can sign Giroux Schenn and Coots next year, but this move doesn't really give them too much wiggle room. Remember, if Mason preforms well this year, he will be getting paid much more than 1.5M. It will, once again, mark the beginning of the Flyers bargain hunting for average goalies

which exactly is Laughton. a good two player heck people compared him to Mike Richards probably not as good offensively. But defensively thats his game.
- 215mike

You want to give hard PK minutes (especially with this team) to a rookie with a handful of NHL games under his belt just to unload the very cap friendly contract of one of our better role players?

No thanks.

Who started this 'lets get rid of Talbot' thing. Who is going to kill penalties if we lose talbot and read?

As MB (?) said earlier, everything Homer has don to address the team HAS been the contingency plan for replacing Pronger. Trying to get Weber was one such attempt to shore up the hole left by Pronger's absence.
- Flyskippy

the weber move was like going to the casino. homer knows he needs that guy on the backline or this team will always have a ceiling. passing on hamilton i understand, if couts is the BPA, but it may prove to be costly. not having done a better job w/ dmen ih-house, even more so. he's trying now but w/in the next couple of seasons, he may have to move schenn or couts....maybe as soon as the next couple of weeks.

I'm cool with giving Laughton our 4th line C role and letting him develop some. I'll miss Hall too. I thought he was a small bright spot last season. I just don't think he'll stay.

If the Flyers needed to move salary, why would they trade Talbot? He makes under 2M. I think that's just wishful thinking from a pens fan.

For a 50/50 revenue split, and contract term limits so teams couldn't sign players to ridiculous Brad Richards-style contracts anymore.
- Feanor

Such a terrible business concept to have. Failing franchises are rewarded for failing instead of moving the teams to areas where they can thrive.

Let bad market teams die, then move them. Don't save them so 4,000 people can keep their team.

This!! I completely agree - great value for the money.

Not this! What is ironic about that?? Coincidental? Yes. Ironic? No.

"My big concern has nothing to do with the salary cap: In order to get back into the playoffs, this team is going to have to cut its goals against average next season. Mark Streit will help them move the puck better and both he and Lecavalier should help them keep puck possession in the offensive zone longer. Even so, the Flyers' team defense remains suspect."

I think Bill summarized the Flyer risk in the above comment.

Holmgren knows his team and you know he is not yet finished. He needs to do something in goal and he needs another Dman. Does he have the space or leverage to jump on a future opportunity?

Essentially the salaries of LeCavalier and Streit are offset by Briere and Bryzgalov. I am less enthusiastic about these deals than I normally am about most Holmgren moves.

Vinny's gonna cover the loss of Briere (and then some, hopefully).
