Sounds like leddy will remain a hawk.... Not that we needed him.
- moylander

I never understood why they were thinking of trading him. Young offensive defenseman aren't easy to find.

I've read the CBA in it's entirety, many times. I know it's true. You just can't sign a player to a SPC at any point during the Season.

Yo buddy. We all always truly appreciate the input from you regarding the ins and outs of the CBA, but, like...

You're basically arguing with Allah about what is written in the Koran ... Yes he knows the CBA that good.
- JoeRussomanno

I wasn't even arguing about that. I just don't understand why he wouldn't want to figure out someway to add Timonen if he wanted to join the team at the All Star break or trade deadline for a limited cost.

Because I'm more interested in building a team for the entire Season. What precedent is there for this? And not talking about a player who is not playing due to injury. I think maybe Scott Neidermayer did something like that one year. But that's all I can think of.

Did Sundin do it? I know Forsberg did. O'Reily came to the team late last year in a shortened season. I think there is a designated point where players can't be signed, but I think it's pretty deep into the season.

I think Selanne pretty much did the same thing that year IIRC. But they were both still under contract at the time.

I think the problem is that Timonen is a 35+ player. No matter whether he plays the first half of the season or not, he will still count against the cap. The only way around it would be for him to sign a smaller contract knowing that he won't play until the midway point.

It must be in the CBA somewhere saying the latest a player can sign a contract and be eligible for the team that season and playoffs.

35+ contract rules only apply to multi-year deals, not one-year contracts.

For those who asked, no scrimmage at the Flyers development camp this year. There will be on-ice instruction days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Wednesday will be the annual Trial in the Isle.

So for those of you that didn't see, the genius writers over at NHL.com are at it again. They voted Alex Ovechkin onto the 1st All-Star team as a RWer, AND to the 2nd All-Star team as a LWer. Ovechkin is officially a 2-time all star in the same year. It's a front page story on Yahoo, but NHL.com still has not said anything about it.
When I read an NHL.com story, I often think that the writers are bad. Here's just one more reason to think so.

Coincidence or do you think the Flyers target those types of players. Iginla next?

I think the Flyers target stars both young and old.

If the Flyers and Timonen were to agree that he would join the team around the trade deadline in the 2014-15 season, would that be allowed? Is that something you could see happening or is Timonen going to fully retire or fully commit to a whole season?

I don't see it happening. I think he'll either retire or play the season.
