I would not give Lecavalier a letter. But it's really a non issue to me.

I would consider giving one to Luke. I really hope he takes that top shutdown defenseman spot by the reigns this year.

With the acquisition of Streit, you may be right. It would be sad seeing him finish his career in another uniform. I hope they limit his heavy minutes early on. I would rather see Schenn, Grossmann and Coburn (if still with the team) take the tough minutes against top lines and defensive zone draws.

Another option could be him coming to the team mid-season. Like Forsberg tried to do with the Avs late in his career.

That was because of injuries. I would not want a part time player. Not really an option.

For 41 pages many have stated that they want the flyers to re-sign, even made lines assuming how he and others would fit in. Suddenly I offer him and "A" and now that's a ridiculous detail?
- dingo8urbaby

I was more just joking around. If he's on the team, I would certainly give him an A. I just don't think he will be. He's certainly not their first choice for a winger.

Over the last 7 years, the Flyers have acquired several captains.

Jason Smith
Briere
Timonen
Pronger
Vinny
Streit
Almost Weber

I think it would work fine with him coming to the team at the midway point. That way he wouldn't have the typical wear and tear. Defenseman at the trade deadline are so expensive. A chance to add a guy like Timonen for free would be great. Not sure if he would be up for it though.

I forgot Jagr was a captain. I knew I was forgetting one and it was Hatcher.

There are rules in place. A player has to be signed to a contract long before the middle of the Season.

I like the way you think, considering it probably would involve a couts or a schenn to land Gardiner. Which older 1 or 2 d-men do u have in mind ?
- Flyer4Life29

Like Stve said, essentially stand pat this year and pick up the best guy available out of next year's free agent pool. As of now there are alot of good names available. I personally think that at this moment the defense has all of the individuals it needs to be effective. Don't be surprised if we don't pick up a dman this offseason, but instead opt to get one next offseason. I'd look more to Laviolette to see if he opts to keep the simplified D system that won us 11 of our final 15 games, or if he reverts to the old system that put us out of the playoffs last year.

I see some defenseman on that list that can help the Flyers. But the true #1 that they really need isn't there.

I've read the CBA in it's entirety, many times. I know it's true. You just can't sign a player to a SPC at any point during the Season.

Was it riveting reading? There are ways around things. They can just sign him to a 3M contract and have him scratched for the first half of the season

I don't know if we'll have the money next off season for a true #1 guy anyway, seeing the recent contracts of Letang and Weber. I think we have the kind of defense at this point where we just need to adequately replace Kimmo.

BTW, I think I should point out, that the most important battle on US soil ended today 150 years ago in Gettysburg.

A moment to remember the largest battle ever on US soil.

Picketts charge was just winding down at this time 150 years ago, surreal.

- youarewrong

My wife is a former history teacher and Civil War (& WWI) buff. I have been to Gettysburg several times with her since January 2010. We wouldn't go anywhere near there this year due to crowding, but will return many more times. As was posted earlier, it is awe-inspiring. We walked Pickett's Charge ourselves. We took my older son for one trip and it was really neat seeing it through his eyes.

Well he's still be signed then wouldn't he? Flyers wouldn't be interested in that. Like I said, not a realistic option.

That would be determined by a number of things. What moves are made between now and then. Re-signing RFA's such as Giroux. How much the Cap is going to go up. Adequately replacing Timonen is going to require a pretty good player.

You're basically arguing with Allah about what is written in the Koran ... Yes he knows the CBA that good.
