I have a CBO question. If you LTIR Prongers salary, do you need to LTIR all of it at once? Or can you LTIR only 1M if that is all you are over? Also, what penalities will the Flyers see for using LTIR this year, in the future?

I am assuming MAB and Wellwood will be waived, correct me if I'm wrong please.

Wellwood can't be waived until he's cleared to play.

Agreed, I wish we could send Mez for him but the injury timeline makes that difficult. It would make some sense for both sides, Mez could be a good replacement for Zidlicky and not buying out Hedberg would offset the actual $ they would need to pay the 4M for Mez. Sadly not really an option unless the Devs really want to roll the dice and clear Mez even though he is injured.

Mez & Coburn will both bounce back next year and whichever one Homer moves will make the trade look foolish. But right now I can't see anything to be done about it. With Briere gone our highest paid forwards make what our top 6 Defensemen make. We almost have to lose one of them.

I still like the idea of trading Coburn and either Couturier for a young puck moving defenseman with top pairing potential. Once that is done I think this team will have the perfect balance of youth over the ice and for time to come.

For Centers:
Giroux
Laughton/Couturier
Schenn-if needed
Cousins

Wingers:
Voracek
Simmonds
Schenn
Straka
McGinn

Defense:
Gustefsson
Gostisbere
Schenn
Hagg
Morin
Alt

Goalies:
Mason
Stolartz

I think that would be a weaker team than we have now. No need to rush a trade now for a young D man when it is a need for next year. Lets play this year first and make changes as we go. A lot can change in a season too. Keep the young kids, vets have been sprinkled in, shore up the goalie, sign Gags if there is extra money, drop the puck.

Agreed. I trade Mez as Coburn is NEEDED and Mez is a big risk. Even for peanuts.

When I was at the draft I was speaking to a knowledgable Devils fan... I know right.... who said Hedberg would NEVER sign with the Flyers. He absolutely disdains us for some reason, and he said you can see it in the way he plays.

guy's holding a 19 year grudge for what? trading him? he can go take a dump in his moose mask and go back to sweden.

And the savvy veteran of the defense, 28-year-old Erik Gustafsson.

It's amazing to me how much this want for Bobby Ryan will never die. I wanted him as much as anyone. Local boy wanting to come home to play for the local team I totally buy into as a great story. I like Ryan and he might had made sense prior to the Lecavalier signing. With this said Lecavalier is a better all around player, even with the steps loss in age. He's bigger, more skilled, a winner and a leader moving forward. He's the perfect fit for is right now, so Bobby Ryan must now officially wait.

I guess because they felt it would be heartless to cut him loose.
It's an absolute waste of a contract slot.

I don't really consider Hedberg a solid goalie, so I have problems with that considering a 2 time vezina winner can probably be had for just 2 mil more.
- JAKEw1234

Hedberg was awful last season. Put up a craptastic .883 behind the Devils defense.

You cannot LTIR only a portion of a player's Cap hit.

When you are using LTIR, you are essentially operating over the Upper Limit. Using the bonus Cushion allows you to only count the base salary of players with bonuses in their deals. This can cause Cap penalties on next year's cap, because you cannot fit the bonuses earned under this year's cap.

Wellwood likely would when he's deemed healthy. Not sure if he is waiver exempt or not. Bourdon would have to clear waivers to be sent down. They might opt to waive Gervais instead, and keep MAB as a 7th.

I'm not saying this should be our team in the future, I was saying that the future looks bright. Out of those defenseman, I would expect at least 3 to turn into solid, if not above average defenseman. I also forgot Lauridsen, MAB, and I'm sure someone else...

The point is, trading Couturier doesn't mean the team is moving away from young players for a win now attitude. It's just rebalancing assetts.

If they're trading Couturier, I'd like to trade other assets to land a marquee player. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening right now, so let's keep him and extend a 7-year, $24M offer sheet to Bernier.

Actually, if Tyler Myers could be acquired for Coburn, Read, and picks, I'd be quite interested. Imagine a future top 6 of

Myers (6'8) - Hagg (6'2)
Morin (6'7) - Schenn (6'2)
Lauridsen (6'6) - Gustafsson (5'10)

We'd be giant, smooth skating, good carrying, good puck moving. and hard hitting. Schenn would probably be our biggest hitter despite being one of our smallest guys. Hagg apparently has a good physical game as well. Hagg would be our 1st PP quarterback, Gustaffsson would run the 2nd one.

I think he will become a decent 3rd line player. He is fast as lightning, and is very sound defensively. Could become a PK specialist. Good for SH goals. Just needs to work on his Finish.

Sources say Bill Zito, who represents Tim Thomas, called the Flyers today. Flyers have little cap $ right now. Might want to go cheaper

I'd be down with this idea if Myers' cap hit wasn't so high.

Yes they're thinking of just letting Jeff Reese play goaltender. What better way to teach than show in game how to do it.
