As much as I feel Nabokov would be the best fit for the Flyers, I imagine the Islanders resigning him to a pretty decent cap hit for 2 years. Might be a lot more money than Flyers want to go with. Makes sense for Isles to split Nabokov with Poulin after the season they just had.

I think the Flyers will go after Tim Thomas and if they don't get him, they could be looking at Dan Ellis or Jose Theodore.

I think signing Vinnie is a good thing (better signing than Mark Streit) and this team will always be pushing the cap and in 'Cap Trouble' so just accept that while we may be in 'Cap trouble', we aren't until we have zero cap space, nobody on LTIR and only have 16 players signed (ala Vancouver before the Schnieder trade)

Why are people still trying to acquire Ryan? The forwards are more than fine. in fact I'd be focusing on a goalie and getting the best possible pick(s) for Mez. Trading Mez will probably require patience though.
- jstross

Not sure what kind of pick you get back for Mez. Probably have to trade him to a team looking to reach the cap floor because of his cap hit. No way trading Couburn unless its a package to get a better younger defenseman.

Gracias. Pretty comical.

Furthermore, these honors come with cash bonuses. Taylor Hall finished third (shoulda have been second) in LW voting, so Ovi's getting his $50k bonus. Travis Yost (OTT blogger here) has the deets.

It was a reference to Howard Eskin always saying if your scared, get a puppy. But I'm sorry to hear about your dog.

I think Hedberg would be a good fit if the Flyers are fully behind mason. at 1.4 mil we could have him for a bag of pucks from New Jersey who is going to have to buy him out if they can't trade him. He'd have one more year on his contract and probably would not have to move House. I think he's got at least one more good half year in him. Spliting time with Mason would be as good for him as it would be steadying for Mason.

If Mez gets cleared and looks good in the pre-season someone will trade a conditional pick for him. Trading Coburn at this point would be silly unless it's a package for a better defender.

I don't really consider Hedberg a solid goalie, so I have problems with that considering a 2 time vezina winner can probably be had for just 2 mil more.

Since we're over the cap currently we would have to trade one or the other before the season starts.

When I was at the draft I was speaking to a knowledgable Devils fan... I know right.... who said Hedberg would NEVER sign with the Flyers. He absolutely disdains us for some reason, and he said you can see it in the way he plays.

Too many people are assuming the Flyers will get rid of Coburn or Mez to help with the cap. I'm not sure I see the logic in the Flyers weakening an already less than stellar D corp.

I think there's a better chance that one or two forwards go, rather than a D man.

- FlyerGuy

Our lowest 6th D makes 3.5 mil (Grossmann) Gus is not even in our top 6. I think it's silly to trade Mes or Coburn as I think they will both bounce back and play well next year but Gus has earned that 6th spot and we need the cheap defenders. Besides, who would you deal from the forwards who makes any money? Hartnell is the only one I can think of that would make a dent in that. And I don't see them moving him.

Agreed, I wish we could send Mez for him but the injury timeline makes that difficult. It would make some sense for both sides, Mez could be a good replacement for Zidlicky and not buying out Hedberg would offset the actual $ they would need to pay the 4M for Mez. Sadly not really an option unless the Devs really want to roll the dice and clear Mez even though he is injured.

Plus they would like to enter the season without having to utilize Pronger's LTIR right away. The money before the LTIR is bankable for in season moves.
- PhillySportsGuy

That's true. But the bigger issue is cap penalties due to using the bonus cushion.

I still like the idea of trading Coburn and either Couturier for a young puck moving defenseman with top pairing potential. Once that is done I think this team will have the perfect balance of youth over the ice and for time to come.

For Centers:
Giroux
Laughton/Couturier
Schenn-if needed
Cousins

Wingers:
Voracek
Simmonds
Schenn
Straka
McGinn

Defense:
Gustefsson
Gostisbere
Schenn
Hagg
Morin
Alt

Goalies:
Mason

I have a CBO question. If you LTIR Prongers salary, do you need to LTIR all of it at once? Or can you LTIR only 1M if that is all you are over? Also, what penalities will the Flyers see for using LTIR this year, in the future?

I am assuming MAB and Wellwood will be waived, correct me if I'm wrong please.
