Looks like if Richards retires at age 37 after the 2016-17 season, before the first of his three phony years where he is due to receive only $1 million in salary, the Rangers will be penalized $5,666,667 a year for three years.

So that's something to look forward to.

this was the answer to my question about why we had the lockout:

"For a 50/50 revenue split, and contract term limits so teams couldn't sign players to ridiculous Brad Richards-style contracts anymore"

So, since the Pronger contract came out before Richards did, I thought I would be bring that one up

I actually agree with you. The Flyers did a lot of the same stuff that Sather has done and vice versa...

Point is, blaming Snider for the lockout is ridiculous. He didnt implement a salary cap did he?

He didnt put a fixed number on the amount a player can make per year, did he?

EDIT: Hell if anything, nobody has given out more ridiculous contracts than Sather.

I am, I just think the Rangers are taking a huge risk in waiting when Richards could end up injured like Heatley is now.

The Flyers and Lightning brass faced the same risk, but they put up the cash to do the right thing for their teams.

wait, I just read that the Flyers can put Chris Pronger's cap hit on LTIR and actually have no cap problems. Do I have to read this blog again? Could swear I just read that...

I would LOVE to see the Flyers play the Rags in the last game of the season, and see Richards get crushed and go down some stupid, lengthy, yet non life threatening injury.

Do you think they will use it next summer? They only have the one since they used one on Redden. Honest question.

Happy w/the cap hit. A year longer than I would've liked but there has to be something extra to entice the player I'm sure. Also strengthens the Flyers weak 2nd unit PP assuming they keep the #1 unit the same as LY.

Yeah, but I have to admit, his "Fantasy Camp" trash talk at Sestito was comedy gold.

I wouldn't say no cap problems. Players on LTIR still count against the offseason cap which can impede FA signings.

when you say "we'll" do you mean you guys on hockeybuzz? Or do you think Laviolette will actually be consciously sending out Rinaldo to try and permanently injure Brad Richards in a game in April 2014, because Brad Richards contract will most certainly be at the top of Laviolette's mind

well, I have been educated.

the Flyers have no cap problems but the Rangers have 4 guys signed beyond next season and will be in cap hell anyway because Peter Laviolette is going to send Zac Rinaldo on the ice to try and kill Brad Richards in a game next April.

Does that cover it?
