Your comment was that Holmgren still has not acquired a player with top pairing potential. I pointed out how that statement is untrue.
I just hope this franchise can somewhow overcome the devastation it is facing by selecting Couturier over Hamilton in last year's draft.

There is no contingency plan for replacing a Hall of Fame elite defenseman. No such thing.

I would imagine carrying Halak is a bit of a burden considering how much the new ownership will have to pay this upcoming season compared to last.

I think the Ducks want a king's ransom for Ryan. Read and Coburn probably wont get it done. He's not worth what they want.

Anyone think that Lecavalier's presence will be good for Giroux specifically? Sort of the way Jagr was to a lot of different Flyers last year? They each have the canadian, center, captain, large expectation thing in common.

That would be another benefit you can't really measure, I like the trade even more today and I was excited yesterday.

On another note, what do you think Nashville is thinking right now?

-Wow, our D is set for possibly the next 7 years.
Or
-Wow, we can become a contender next year with the return we get on one of these guys?

Also, we need to get another high-priced forward on this team so that we can somehow work a 4th line involving Hartnell and Voracek.

Too many people are assuming the Flyers will get rid of Coburn or Mez to help with the cap. I'm not sure I see the logic in the Flyers weakening an already less than stellar D corp.

I think there's a better chance that one or two forwards go, rather than a D man.

It's because, as long as Mz/Grossmann are healthy, we have 7 starting defensemen. It's not a cap issue, it's a personnel issue. The cap just makes it worse.

well, that's the point ... do we really expect Mez or Grossman to be healthy?

edit: obviously more of a concern with Mez.

The PHWA voted him the first all star team RW and the second all star team LW this year. This, after an email specifically clarifying that Ovechkin was a RW was sent to members.

Why are people still trying to acquire Ryan? The forwards are more than fine. in fact I'd be focusing on a goalie and getting the best possible pick(s) for Mez. Trading Mez will probably require patience though.

Plus they would like to enter the season without having to utilize Pronger's LTIR right away. The money before the LTIR is bankable for in season moves.

The near $21mm in cap space next year, combined with a probable rise in salary cap will likely allow them to keep Giroux, Coururier and Schenn, if not Read.

If you read the blog, all the questions you asked are answered. You also forget the near $5mm in LTIR relief from Pronger. Considering your team just gave 4 years to a 34 year old that's never been a top line player without Crosby and made Letang the 3rd highest cap hit in the NHL among defensemen, you might want to consider moving out of that glass house before tossing any stones.

hey that dupuis contract isnt too bad!
