I Was never a big Vinny fan but I do understand and like the signing.

I do think they should shop B. Schenn for a young dman with offensive potential.

They did OK at the draft but I would love to have more options now.

why did guys like Ed Snider force us to miss half a season and lock the players out again?

Its guys like Ed Snider the league was fighting against. If it were up to him there would be no cap and each team could spend what they want.

The key for the Flyers right now is not to overspend in goal. Bring another goalie in at like 1.5 mil to compete with Mason(Jose Theodore?). With Mez gone that will leave some room to fit Gagne back in if they don't overspend in net.

For a 50/50 revenue split, and contract term limits so teams couldn't sign players to ridiculous Brad Richards-style contracts anymore.

The Streit move was non-sense. It got even worse now that they have signed Lecavalier (with a NMC). I find it really hard to keep all of their assets going forward. Couturier or Schenn alongside Read will probably be casualties. Giroux's new contract will cost at least $8.25M/year.

Who's playing G backup? Who's getting traded so you can fit in another contract for that?

It's usually considered good form to actually read the blog before commenting unknowledgeably about exactly what the blogger explained for you. In short, easy to digest sentences.

Don't you remember, the poor small market teams were dying, barely able to stay in business. You know, teams like Minnesota who somehow managed to commit nearly 200 million to Suter and Parise and lets not forget Nashville, who all of sudden went from broke to being able to spend 27 million in one calender year for Weber.

Man, I would love to be an NHL owner, it would be pretty cool to be broke, but somehow be able to spend millions of dollars like it was nothing!

Hartnell:
Cap hit, 4.75
Age, 31
Avg points per year, 40.41
Career high in points, 67 (2011-12)

Lecavalier:
Cap hit 4.5
Age, 33
Avg points per year, 62.42
Career high in points, 108 (2006-07)

Not sure what the fuss is about really. I think his contract is a great deal for the flyers. Excluding last year, he's scored 20 goals or more in 12 straight seasons.

This!! I completely agree - great value for the money.

Ironically, while comparing the two players, I found that their birthdays are 3 days apart!

Not this! What is ironic about that?? Coincidental? Yes. Ironic? No.

I don't remember anyone talking about buying out Chris Pronger when he was only 33 years old.

You guys must be livid that you still have Richards signed till 2020 at $6.67M while the Flyers just got his old buddy Vinny for two years and $2M less. Enjoy those cap recapture penalties.

after taking a year off from the NHL to protest their silly lockout, it is nice to see that not much has changed. In regards to the Flyers, while I am certainly glad I did not have to endure the train wreck that was last season, I still think with a couple more solid moves. the Flyers will be in good shape. Stay patient and stay the course...please

two years at the end of his deal, when he was 41 and 42 years old, at 575K, to artificially lower the cap hit to $4,941,429 a year.

but, you knew that

Ridiculous because it would successfully circumvent the cap?

this was the answer to my question about why we had the lockout:

"For a 50/50 revenue split, and contract term limits so teams couldn't sign players to ridiculous Brad Richards-style contracts anymore"

So, since the Pronger contract came out before Richards did, I thought I would be bring that one up
