No where near the 200 million that NPR (National Public Radio, government funded) spent on a state of the art building in the middle of DC. At least the Coyotes create jobs for Glendale. NPR just spews the president's agenda.

15-years x $15M = $225M... and that's from a city with a tax base of just over 200k, not the Feds.

As for NPR being the President's mouthpiece, FAIR (left-leaning media watchdog group) actually did an in-depth study and found that NPR's news coverage actually has a slight right-leaning slant, lol.

I think the defense is exactly what it is for opening night. Prior to the Streit trade, we needed help moving puck and we got but due to the log jam back there and not much wiggle room to improve, why complicate things further? All this team ever needed was to add because it is already a good team. Trade Meszaros and have Gustafsson replace him full time, boom, here is your opening night defense. Any fixes that need to be made will happen during the regular season. For example, should Kimmo Timonen not be able to battle through an entire 82 game schedule, then you turn your attentions to a replacement pending UFA such as Dan Boyle. Everyone can allow their minds to run wild but the Flyers made the exact splash they needed to and I for one never had faith in last season's team. I now have all the faith in the world for this season's team. Get a goalie to back up Mason. Try to re-sign Gagne. Worry about the rest during the regular season.

Not to mention that NPR employs over 800 people and less than 10 percent of their budget comes from government

I'd prefer to go with Giroux, Vinny, Couts, and Laughton for a few seasons as our centers. If need be, I'd move Laughton to 3rd line wing, if he develops and requires more ice time. I'm all for keeping BSchenn and seeing if he can transition to LW. You look at the teams in the finals this season, and you see a few lines have more than one natural center on them. Utilizing Laughton and BSchenn as wingers down the road isn't a horrible idea.
- Rocktane

Not every center can be moved to wing. Schenn can, but I'm not sure Laughton can. And I know Couturier cant. Lets also not forget about Cousins.

I'm pretty sure someone of these guys is on thier way out. As MJL ALWAYS points out it is good to have orginazational depth because you can trade it for needs. We have the Depth at center and now we need to trade it for our needs. Whether that would be a number 1 goalie, a top pairing d-man, or a top scoring winger is up to Homer to decide.

How about Read, Coburn, 2nd for Ryan, then Couturier, Cousins, Hagg for Edler. Meszaros for a 3rd.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Ryan-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Gagne-Schenn-Talbot
McGinn-Laughton-Rinaldo

Edler-Schenn
Grossmann-Streit

How Public Radio could be cast as an enemy of the republic is really beyond me... like Bo Horvat, it's a reach to say the least.

from eric engels' blog today:

6) A lot of people are debating--moreover--abjectly criticizing the Flyers decision to give Lecavalier this deal. I've learned one thing about Paul Holmgren:

Don't judge any single deal he makes, because he's bound to make at least a few more before announcing that he's done.

Painfully obvious is the need for Philadelphia to add to their blueline and find a starting goalie to take the job out of Steve Mason's shaky hands.

Problem: No money.

The process to fix up the blueline will begin with trading Braydon Coburn out of town. There's not much Edmonton--considered to be the frontrunner for Coburn's services--can offer Philadelphia in the way of capable defenders ready to make an immediate impact.

Where the Flyers might find such players is incredibly hard to decipher. Currently, the defensive crop of UFAs-to-be is so slim, Andrew Ference has to be considered the best available option.

I'm sure we'll hear about Ference talking to the Flyers over the next couple of days as UFAs are now permitted to be courted by their suitors (no romantic intonation intended).

Oh god we're trading Hagg now, too? That guy can be a do-it-all, top pairing defenseman. A guy who plays the PP, the PK, and ES effectively. A guy who has superior offensive abilites, as well as shutdown skills in the defensive zone, as well as the ability to make great breakout passes, all while maintaining a strong physical game and skating smoothly. As I've said before, if anyone from this year's draft ends up being the elite defenseman that is picked in the 2nd/3rd round (Like Letang, Weber, Lidstrom, Kronwall, Subban, Keith, etc.) Hagg is the most likely from this draft class. I think Madison Bowey is a far behind 2nd. Let's not trade the guy we just drafted 3 days ago.
