Vancouver has to take on a lot of salary and that team needs cap space also.
- stveshdy

Again I never said it would be all 3 going to Vancouver. I they they all happen in seperate deals. You might have to trade Coburn first for picks, then include those picks in a deal with Couturier for Edler...

I posted before, I hope the only thing done on Friday is Mesz is traded to clear cap space to add a goalie. I'm afraid it's going to be more complex than that.
- PLindbergh31

Frankly, I can't expect the unexpected, because I don't put anything past the brass right now. Not even trading for Byfuglien, a McDonalds, and a set of goalie pads.

On a related note, I have a big idea for our backup goalie...

Don't be scared. Holmgren knows what he's doing.
- stveshdy

It's not Holmgren I'm overly concerned with. It's the 80 year old hovering over his shoulder.

Swirling down the drain at top speed while flailing desperately, looking for anything to cling to that would keep him from getting flushed?

By Fixing the defense I would like to see Coburn and Meszaros traded out and for them to add a guy like Edler by trading Couturier or Read.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Gagne-Laughton-Read
Raffl/McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo
Rosehill

Timonen-Schenn
Edler-Streit
Grossmann-Gustefsson
Bourdon

Mason
Thomas/Nabakov

- youarewrong

Agree on all of this, except I'd rather trade BSchenn over Couturier if we must.

I love the hockey implications. This should mean b schenn will be moved to LW. Do you like that? I love it, now our forwards are totally set.

Lecavalier if he declines as much as you think he could, will not get in the way of a rising cooter or schenn.

The crux of your vantage point seems to be, your willing to wait on schenn and cooter to take the 2nd line center role. I was willing to do the same, until last year. Cooter is still a couple years away from competing for that spot. B schenn is just not good enough defensively. We can't wait on him anymore. I think he'll be just fine on the wing

During lecavaliers contract. The best thing that can happen is if cooter does pass vinny on the ice. Its just not something that we need to worry too much about. It's 4.5. Not 7 or something

- Just5

By the time Lecavalier's contract ends, Schenn will be 26 and Couturier 25....so what?

I agree. He is an option if they decide to move a defenseman or two.
- stveshdy

Weber, Blum, Russell, Schultz, Hunwick, Zanon all FAs now. Ballard being bought out, more possible. Worst case is we sign one or two as projects/fillers, they won't work out. Should come cheap, and should be motivated.

Another great blog, Bill.

The length of the contracts for Streit and Vinny is the trade-off for not expending any hockey assets to get them.

Incremental contract growth on existing players, with the exception of Read, will most likely be covered by the increase in next year's cap (hopefully at least 80% or more).

Assuming comparable replacements are available, expiring contracts should cover the cost of those replacements. The assumption that comparable replacements will be available is the problem.

Based upon the trade rumors floated before the draft, is it reasonable to assume that the Flyers have fully vetted the trade values of Coburn, Read, Mesz and, possibly, Coots? Now that the draft is over, have those values changed?

Was Jones dropping to 4th a relative surprise, thus leaving Nashville no choice but to draft the best player available? Would they be open to trading him? Would they be open to trading him to the Flyers? I have a jones for Jones and think that if he could potentially be our next Howe/Desjardins/Pronger, we need to take a swing. Most Cup winners have that stud defenseman. However, in any trade, I would like to see an equivalent number of assets coming back.

For $hi!$ and giggles, say Mez, Coots and Read for Jones, 2014 and 2015 1st and 2nd (one pick each year, our choice of round in 2014 with the 2015 being the other round, if that makes sense), or just one pick with the 2nd being a roster player.

Leaves you the ability to sign Gagne and possibly Thomas if so inclined.

I don't hate them, per se, but I have a friend that is a Hawks fan that hates them.

He reminds me of me when I talk about the Penguins, so it probably has to do with diving, baiting officials, cheap hits, etc.

Jones is not going to be traded to the Flyers. As soon as you accept this, life will begin to take new meaning.
