Vinny wore 40 for Team Canada
- phatpat44

Interesting. And that happens to be open.

On a related note, Streit can't wear his old number either, but he broke into the league wearing 32, and since only catastrophe or magic will result in Brandon Manning making the Flyers out of camp, Streit can probably have that one.

Edler would be the only roster player coming back, but I didnt say what I expect to get back in terms of picks/prospects. And really the Cap space will be welcome. It will allow you to sign a goalie, gagne, and maybe another player.

Vancouver has to take on a lot of salary and that team needs cap space also.

Golgoski fetched pit Neal and Niskanen...I think golgoski might more expensive asset wise then you think
- nonpoint22

That was at peak value. Ryan Parent got the Preds Peter Forsberg. I'm not sure he could have gotten the Flyers much 3 years later.

Different players. Just using an analogy.

Mez is going to be a salary dump and thinking anything else is lunacy...I suppose you are right but who should they get....In a perfect world coburn, coots and a 1st for piertangelo would work but obviously AP is going nowhere so who should they target Weber contract is huge and I dont see who else fits

Ference, Rozsival or Scuderi to replace Meszaros?

Gary and RSE got $12-15M in annual fees from the City of Glendale to keep the Coyotes in the desert, essentially at gun point.

This. I can just imagine how tired we'll leave opposing PKs if they have to deal with a power play so good that Mark Streit and Vincent Lecavalier are playing on the second unit.
- dilbert719

I cannot friggin wait. May take them some time to figure out the right mix but we should be deadly.

my brother speculates 11. he could go 22 which you could say is an option on his #4.

i've decided i'm not going to pick apart these things and over analyze and worry about the term, $ because it's a waste of time and energy. i just want to watch an entertaining hockey team and let the chips fall where they may. what's the worst that can happen - they go another year without winning the cup. yeah, i have no experience in dealing with that scenario. none.

- hammarby31

why 11?

yeah good way to look at it. my biggest gripe with this team has been trading away kids and picks for veterans. making moves like this are fine with me. I look forward to watching Steit and Lecavalier play. having the kids play with a guy like Lecavalier is also fine in my book. Say what you want about the Flyers but they don't worry about money and I will always love being a fan of a team that is like that. they ate 25 million dollars in buyouts. I do hope they learn to be patient with young players and keep their picks. that is my sole complaint

As Tomahawk posted yesterday, Lecavalier wanted to get out of Tampa where they played run and gun offense, no defense, and had a garbage can in goal.

Flyers were the logical choice.

I posted before, I hope the only thing done on Friday is Mesz is traded to clear cap space to add a goalie. I'm afraid it's going to be more complex than that.

I'm still holding out hope that the Flyers manage to unload Meszaros within the next couple of days, while being able to bring in a back up and being able to re-sign Gagne. Where is the connection outside of Simon Gagne the bring Vincent Lecavalier here? Did Gagne give him a call as some buddies normally do? If you can get Gagne for two seasons for under 2.5 million, that is a very good investment and he could only help make this team a contender again should he remain healthy.

Since Emery is out, I am all for turning my attentions to Tim Thomas.

Aside from the cap ramifications, I'm more frustrated with the hockey implications.

They just freed up the logjam of centers by buying out Danny... now they put another declining vet in front of Schenn and Couturier. If Schenn and Couturier break out (as Richards and Carter did immediately after the Briere signing), this move will be frivolous at best. If they stagnate because there's not enough PP-time and offensive ES shifts to go around, this move could actually be harmful.

Vinny's still a good player, and for the next couple of seasons, he'll provide some good offensive support, but it doesn't strike me as a pivotal or prudent move. Opportunistic, yes, but not really smart.

- Tomahawk

I love the hockey implications. This should mean b schenn will be moved to LW. Do you like that? I love it, now our forwards are totally set.

Lecavalier if he declines as much as you think he could, will not get in the way of a rising cooter or schenn.

The crux of your vantage point seems to be, your willing to wait on schenn and cooter to take the 2nd line center role. I was willing to do the same, until last year. Cooter is still a couple years away from competing for that spot. B schenn is just not good enough defensively. We can't wait on him anymore. I think he'll be just fine on the wing

During lecavaliers contract. The best thing that can happen is if cooter does pass vinny on the ice. Its just not something that we need to worry too much about. It's 4.5. Not 7 or something

Edler's NTC kicked in on 7/1, so he'd have to want to come here first. Also, the Canucks don't need a forward like Read; they need one like Simmonds. If we were exceedingly lucky, we could possibly convince them to take Hartnell+, but that's about the best we might do.
