I wouldn't worry about Vinny's contract and ability to perform anymore then I would worry about Hartnell's contract and his ablilty to perform.

The thing with Vinny is we know he will take a trade back to Tampa to close his career. We might have to eat a 1 or 2 of his contract at that time. I'm not sure if they will be able to do the same with Hartnell. They will be stuck with that contract.

Mez is going to be a salary dump and thinking anything else is lunacy...I suppose you are right but who should they get....In a perfect world coburn, coots and a 1st for piertangelo would work but obviously AP is going nowhere so who should they target Weber contract is huge and I dont see who else fits
- nonpoint22

They don't have to hit a home run. A smaller move for a guy like goligoski might work. At this point, I don't see them trading for a current roster player. They have a full roster except goalie. I think they'd ask for picks/prosepcts if they trade coburn. They may ask for a forward if they trade Read.

After what happened in Glendale last night, is there any doubt left that billionaires/millionaires are the biggest and most aggressive spongers of government handouts?

On the upside... I can't wait until I die so the Flyers can finally win a Cup.

Aside from the cap ramifications, I'm more frustrated with the hockey implications.

They just freed up the logjam of centers by buying out Danny... now they put another declining vet in front of Schenn and Couturier. If Schenn and Couturier break out (as Richards and Carter did immediately after the Briere signing), this move will be frivolous at best. If they stagnate because there's not enough PP-time and offensive ES shifts to go around, this move could actually be harmful.

Vinny's still a good player, and for the next couple of seasons, he'll provide some good offensive support, but it doesn't strike me as a pivotal or prudent move. Opportunistic, yes, but not really smart.

I smell a trade for top D...just saying.

Hobey Baker finalist Carsen Chubak was signed to a minor league contract and will back up Heeter.

while I am not thrilled about the years on the Streit and Vinny deals, I do love the fact that they went out and got 2 of the best UFA's available (yes its not a super deep crop of UFA's) upgrading the team without losing any of their kids. training camp will certainly be a zoo again like with Jagr

soooo what number does Vinny wear?

Yessir. I agree with you on him being our best d-man last year. The guy was unreal when he was healthy. His knees werent an issue either. However, he has had several years where his knees have been an issue. Surgical treatment doesnt necessarily fix knees either.... at least not as successfully as shoulder surgery fixes shoulders. Reason being... at all times his knee are holding up his 230lb frame.

wait, surgeries fix shoulders?

but meszy is a dead man walking and grossmann isn't

I could see him replacing voracek. I wouldn't mind moving Voracek to the second unit and letting him control the play like Giroux does on the first unit.
- PhillySportsGuy

I really hope that doesnt happen. Just put vinnie on #2 PP unit along with Streit and they could very well be the best #2 unit in the league

my brother speculates 11. he could go 22 which you could say is an option on his #4.

i've decided i'm not going to pick apart these things and over analyze and worry about the term, $ because it's a waste of time and energy. i just want to watch an entertaining hockey team and let the chips fall where they may. what's the worst that can happen - they go another year without winning the cup. yeah, i have no experience in dealing with that scenario. none.

This. I can just imagine how tired we'll leave opposing PKs if they have to deal with a power play so good that Mark Streit and Vincent Lecavalier are playing on the second unit.

Gary and RSE got $12-15M in annual fees from the City of Glendale to keep the Coyotes in the desert, essentially at gun point.

You're signing up for a trade of Coburn, Mez and Coots for only Edler in return?
- PhillySportsGuy

Edler would be the only roster player coming back, but I didnt say what I expect to get back in terms of picks/prospects. And really the Cap space will be welcome. It will allow you to sign a goalie, gagne, and maybe another player.
