Well, I would have to disagree with this whole ideology. Your report does explain how Philly can and will stay under the cap but the issue I'm having with it is that it is based on hypotheticals. I keep reading Philly fans post about how people haven't READ the report. Well I have, and I'm not convinced. Your point revolves around future projections and player moves. That is a very dangerous game to play considering the cap drop that has affected every team in the league, not just Philly. Sure you can move Coburn and lose quite literally your best stay at home defencemen to stay under the cap, but that has now held back your defence from getting better. Believe me, Streit is not the answer you seek. My point is that you can't say Philly will be fine because they "plan to" move certain players to fit. Im sure every team in the league will jump on players like meszaros so that philly can fit under the cap. MY point now is that the teams that need holes filled and only have a certain amount of money to play with may not jump at the opportunity to take contracts Philly can't afford now because they went and signed lecavalier(a coveted player recently). Unfortunately, I believe they will lose one or two of their better young players next season. If not, they will lose a key role player. Then we'll see how much you praise holmgren.
Just my opinion...

This whole post is terrible, and Im not picking on you either. Coburn is far from our best stay at home d-man. In that regard, hes probably 3rd. I dont know of a single team who doesnt base their future cap on hypotheticals; primarily because there isnt a single GM (that I know of) with the ability to look into the future. Every single cap has predicted (hypothetical) expenditures.

Grossmann is a beast. His concussions are a concern but I wouldn't move him.

He was their best defenseman last year imo.

I wasnt speaking of his concussions.

$21 MM coming off next year...and we aren't even considering what happens with the rest of FA and this summer. Dumping Mez will help as well. In Homer We Trust. These guys got these numbers down cold.

Up until the point where we have to trade Upshall for Carcillo?

Hobey Baker finalist Carsen Chubak was signed to a minor league contract and will back up Heeter.

Yes and no; they did sign a goalie to an AHL-only deal to go with Heeter.

I believe his name is Carson Chubarak (sp); he was a college free agent they signed before the season ended.

Yessir. I agree with you on him being our best d-man last year. The guy was unreal when he was healthy. His knees werent an issue either. However, he has had several years where his knees have been an issue. Surgical treatment doesnt necessarily fix knees either.... at least not as successfully as shoulder surgery fixes shoulders. Reason being... at all times his knee are holding up his 230lb frame.

Upshall was better than Carcillo. Since leaving the Flyers he's had some decent years. Had injury problems too. My point was more that the Flyers aren't the best at managing the cap. In fact, they're one of the worst.

So in summation.... You can't make a plan because it may not work out?

Doesn't that work both ways and is pretty much what the entirety of sports management is based on?

By that logic you could also say that, had they not signed Vinny, they run the risk of younger players not panning out and there is no guarantee that teams won't lock up free agents next year preventing the Flyers from being able to improve at all.

There will always be teams that will be able to accept salary for slight improvement that would have interest in Mezsaros and there will always be teams that can't take on money that wouldn't be.

It was the right move at the time, but it's not something that had to happen if they planned correctly.

You know who I hate? Frank Servalli... This dude is a bonafide idiot. He was ripping the Flyers yesterday about getting Lecavalier and now he is praising them the day afterwards. I ripped him a new one on twitter lol. My god. Fat a$$ with that cocky little attitude he has while chewing gum really gets under my skin.

But anyways, like I said last night Mez wont be worth more than a lower end draft pick if he was to be dealt with Coburn and Read. Im sure the Flyers already have a trade partner in mind.

Totally disagree. Unless you don't want them to be aggressive and compete each and every year. You should be tickled pink that you have ownership that allows them to spend every damn dime to get the best they can sign. Not every move is a winner. Pronger was a tremendous opportunity that turned into a calamity. But I am happy that we have the ability to play in this league. And we do a better job than the Rags, TO, or just about any other team that spends to the limit every year.

I still don't like the signing, but I'm not as mad about it as when I first heard it. Frank is an idiot. If you read his and Tim's stuff on CSN it's terrible. Half the time their articles are what Bill wrote about on here the day before.

You have only 2 options: Leighton or DiPietro. Who would you take? Shooter tutor is not an option.

I don't want them to be super aggressive on everything. Sometimes it's better to wait things out. I like that management lets them spend, but sometimes they spend it on the wrong stuff.
