sign Gagne, Thomas and Andrew Ference, call it an offseason. Also trade Coburn and Mesz for draft picks or prospects.
- flyersfan51

Don't care one way or another with Gagne.

Rather keep Coburn over Ference.

Mez will probably be traded.

And Vinny will; we can count on it. Can't wait to see it in here when it happens.

Still got him very cheap cap hit wise.

I think he's done like dinner if this team is floundering going into the holidays.
- johndewar

No doubt. His style worked fine when he had Pronger and a younger Timonen on the ice for 45-50 minutes per game. Now the defense can't handle the pressure of a good forecheck.

Think about the number of odd man rushes this team had compared to their opponent. It must have been at least a 2:1 ratio. Maybe it just seems worse because bryz never stopped a breakaway

So question. Besides Mason we only hve Cal Heeter right? Stolarz is staying where he is next year. If that's the case we need an AHL goalie too.
Or am I mistaken and forgetting someone?

- FlyersGrace

I think that's all the goalies they have.

They do need an AHL backup. Cal Heeter will take the starting role.

well you know what, the way the Flyers and Penguins are spending money leads me to believe that the salary cap will be going up to levels never seen before in the coming years, and if that unfortunate scenario you just laid out with Brad Richards occurs, it should be too crippling for our cap in future seasons.
- jimbro83

listening to Sirius radio and they are saying (I think it was Adam Kimelman) teams are banking on the cap going up to as high as 80 million in the next few years

Yes and no; they did sign a goalie to an AHL-only deal to go with Heeter.

I believe his name is Carson Chubarak (sp); he was a college free agent they signed before the season ended.

The money's fine. I'll suffer through the length as long as he produces, and the personal time off doesn't occur too much during games.

The length may be too long but I still think he will produce 60 points per year.

wait, I just read that the Flyers can put Chris Pronger's cap hit on LTIR and actually have no cap problems. Do I have to read this blog again? Could swear I just read that...

So you're basically hoping that if Richards IS injured next season it will be a life-altering, career-ending injury. Nice!

coburn is likely more moveable if no other reason than his durability. meszy has been a glass joe the last year and half. reasonable to think other gms would be leery of trading for an injury prone player - and the injuries run across the board, it's not a chronic issue he's dealing with.

between the two of them, if they could both stay healthy, i'd prefer to keep meszaros iwth this mix.

I'm sure they will have another goalie. Not really a concern right now when they need an NHL goalie still.

Well, I would have to disagree with this whole ideology. Your report does explain how Philly can and will stay under the cap but the issue I'm having with it is that it is based on hypotheticals. I keep reading Philly fans post about how people haven't READ the report. Well I have, and I'm not convinced. Your point revolves around future projections and player moves. That is a very dangerous game to play considering the cap drop that has affected every team in the league, not just Philly. Sure you can move Coburn and lose quite literally your best stay at home defencemen to stay under the cap, but that has now held back your defence from getting better. Believe me, Streit is not the answer you seek. My point is that you can't say Philly will be fine because they "plan to" move certain players to fit. Im sure every team in the league will jump on players like meszaros so that philly can fit under the cap. MY point now is that the teams that need holes filled and only have a certain amount of money to play with may not jump at the opportunity to take contracts Philly can't afford now because they went and signed lecavalier(a coveted player recently). Unfortunately, I believe they will lose one or two of their better young players next season. If not, they will lose a key role player. Then we'll see how much you praise holmgren.
Just my opinion...

I said the same exact thing last night. Still have to worry about Mez staying healthy though.

I think Coburn will be traded if the return is good.

it will. and with all these outdoor games the league is planning to add, the revenue is just going to continue to climb, despite criticism saying that says this tactic will dilute the concept.

Teams deal with this every single year. Chicago has won two cups and continues to build around a certain core.

I know the Flyers can sign Giroux Schenn and Coots next year, but this move doesn't really give them too much wiggle room. Remember, if Mason preforms well this year, he will be getting paid much more than 1.5M. It will, once again, mark the beginning of the Flyers bargain hunting for average goalies
- PhillySportsGuy

$21 MM coming off next year...and we aren't even considering what happens with the rest of FA and this summer. Dumping Mez will help as well. In Homer We Trust. These guys got these numbers down cold.

Grossmann is a beast. His concussions are a concern but I wouldn't move him.

He was their best defenseman last year imo.
