I think it will be fine. Brassard's older now. He's in a new city. In the short time that he's been here he's had success. Plus if there is a problem between the two, hopefully AV take no nonsense from either of them. - tomburton99
Arniel is also a few years older and more experienced as a coach. I remember some years back when Vinny P. was bought out by the Lightning and I suggested he could be a fit here as a cheap complementary scorer with Gaborik. A few people reminded me that Prospal and Torts didn't get along all that well in Tampa at times and didn't think there was a chance in hell he would sign here. Not only did Vinny come to New York but he cited Torts as one of the reasons why he did. After finishing off the first one-year contract he re-upped for a second season.
My guess is that these two guys get together with AV and work it out. Even going back to when Brassard and Arniel didn't necessarily get along it was Brassard's agent, Allen Walsh doing all the talking. Brassard kept his mouth shut and tried to do things the right way. What I saw from Brassard last season was a man with a new lease on life and a newfound confidence in his game. I sincerely hope he is able to build upon that this year and that Arniel helps him do just that. |

Gordie Clark tells me that among free agents in camp Alex Krushelynski has impressed the most, also @tolchinsky10 who scored twice today
Krushelynski is alomst 23, undrafted college free agent who's 5'11 and 175 pounds soaking wet. |

hahaha, tj would be excited.
his father is a former NHL standout who won three Stanley Cups as a player with the Edmonton Oilers and a fourth as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings.
Sather knows his father quite well. |

Slightly disappointed with that. - aecliptic
I doubt that has anything to do with buying him out. The hope may be that if they are claimed it clears a little cap space and also opens up a slot in the 50 contract list. I bet it is simply a procedural move to give the club more flexibility ahead of tomorrow. That being said, I could see Asham claimed.
We all talk about wanting to trade him for a bag of pucks but the guy makes all of $1M, will stand up for his teammates, has an underrated shot and is supposed to be great in the room. I never understood the hate directed at him. Hell, most of us would gladly go back and match Montreal's offer to Prust and truthfully Asham does many of the same things, including being that guy in the room, for much less. It didn't work out well of course last year and I am not saying he is as good as Prust but I was fine with singing Asham last year and think he gets too much hate around here. |

I don't think putting Asham and Powe amounts to a hill of beans unless somebody snatches them up.
The Rangers would probably be happy if someone did and it's just a matter of dangling them out there and seeing if someone bites.
I still think one or both of them are going to be here. |

More Clark on @dkristo7: "We really have liked him for a long time and are every excited that now we have him...he's a goal scorer and more"
Gordie Clark has nothing but good things to say about Kristo. This just reassures me that this was a good trade. |

Oh good, cause I want to see if Powe can go "0" 82. I actually think Asham has skills, never seems to stay healthy, or get decent ice time. |

Asham and Powe's million dollar cap hits still count if they are in the AHL this year, start praying someone grabs them |

I think we still save 900k on each guy tho. Not much, but 1.8 mil plus 2 mil after signing our rfas can make a difference |

Actually if I read it right their combined cap hits will only be about $217K. Some stupid formula they use. Something about the amount above the minimum salary plus whatever only counts against cap. Larry Brooks said same thing so maybe the Rangers clear about $1.7M or $1.8M. |

yea it's correct. you take their cap hit, subtract 900k from it, and that's what it then is if they play in the minors. |

Let me guess: Scotty Hockey? I think that maroon finally blocked me after I went after him on Twitter for railing Asham when Asham went after a player who shot the puck at Hank in a lopsided Rangers win. Asham responded by asking old Scotty what he was supposed to do, let the other guys just do that. Scotty said that in a 5 - 1 game Asham shouldn't be getting into fights and blah, blah, blah. There was only a few minutes left in that game; it wasn't like the opponent was going to mount a five goal rally. Scotty Hockey is a maroon and that's more or less what I told him. |

Ulf Samuelson ready for Rangers ‘D’
When assistant coach Ulf Samuelsson begins working with the Rangers at training camp, the veteran of 16 NHL seasons will impart two fundamental principles to his defensemen:
“No one screening the goaltender and no getting rebounds,” is how the one-time Blueshirt described his “ideal defensive environment” Wednesday after the third day of the club’s prospect camp. |

Nice rookie year followed by a poor sophomore campaign. Terrific third year where he garnered some Norris votes then this past season where he struggled playing top-four minutes. I still have no doubt he can be a solid option on a second pair and can get up to 50 points in a season consistently when he hits his prime. The math says defensemen hit their peak at 25-26 so MDZ has a couple years yet to reach that point. I still think he's a better defender today than he was as a rookie and that means to me he has improved. The next step and question is can he develop the consistency he needs to be that top-four D that he has the ability to be. |

Truthfully I don't think it was the plan last year for the D to block his sight lines. I don't know how many times I saw a goal because a D screened Hank, Hank understandably shows frustration and the D knew he had Franked it up. Torts on the bench shaking his head. Yeah, not the plan at all. That being said maybe Ulfie can help them figure out how to not screen Hank better than Torts and Co. |
