I'd rather Lundqvist not go to the Olympics:

Chechnya terrorist: They (Russia) plan to hold the Olympics on the bones of our ancestors, on the bones of many, many dead Muslims, buried on the territory of our land on the Black Sea.

We as mujahideen are obliged to not permit that, using any methods allowed us by the almighty Allah.

Jeff Shultz could be an interesting option for our blue line. If Staal stays on LTIR, I wouldn't mind giving him a shot. He's only 27, and has some offensive ability.

And hes huge... but he would still command about 2.5m to 3m on the open market.

I think the consensus is, after all RFA's are resigned, we should be sitting on about 1.5M of capspace. If Staal isn't ready to go, and we have the option of LTIR, that would free up all of his 3.975 hit. Thats enough for Shultz, and maybe even another decent bottom 6 forward. That would also make it possible for us to not resign Eminger. Problem is, if Staal comes back, do we pay Shultz 2.5M to be a healthy scratch? The other side is, Strahlman had a career year. There's nothing in his history that has proven consistency yet, though I really like him and don't see any reason why he would decline. But its possible. Also, Moore is very young, and there's always a possible decline at his age in the D position. Del Zotto's consistency is a question too. So a good top 4 backup may not be a bad idea overall, gives AV a little firepower to have healthy roster competition among 7 solid defensemen. Also may allow some resting intervals for Girardi and McDonagh who we know will be playing 25-28min per game. Would like to be able to rest them for a few games here and there, maybe alternate rest throughout the D lineup all year long.

I am not certain what the Boyle-bashers are trying to get at. Sure the guy has size and sometimes doesn't use it, but he does lead the team in hits. He's the Rangers best faceoff guy and can produce (remember the last two playoff seasons) a goal here-and-there. I am not sure where his 20+ goal year came from, but it showed he can put the puck in the net; though you just can't expect that every year.

The guy hits and wins faceoffs in the defensive zone. Plays a great PK and blocks shots all the time. What more can you ask for from a 3rd/4th line center?

- mames11

I don't mind Boyle in a limited role -PK etc. but he
Got Played waaay to much by torts for My liking.
There were games when he seemed like he was constant on the ice.
Boyle on the PP? Ugh. I'll give him a break On that since they
Would have tried anything but still painful to watch.

I think staal will be ready by the start of the season. If not, he may never be ready.

I don't mind Boyle on the team, although he's such a catcher for a big dude. However, if they keep him, Powe and Pyatt have to go, that's 3.7 mil of blah.

the full interview posted up on snyrangersblog is actually a pretty good read. gives a lot of insight on what went on behind the scenes. one thing we can say positively about torts is that he really did change the new york culture. he brought along all the kids and ended the whole star free agent haven thing we had going on that philly has now inherited.

Gotta be honest though...

Id rather trade MDZ + Pyatt for Ruutu... then Staal + Pyatt for Skinner

Reason being, Ruutu gives us that top line grit we want and he have the ability to score. Furthermore, we get to hold onto Staal and maintain the, arguably, best defense in hockey.

Ruutu, Stepan, Nash
Kreider, Richards, Callahan
Hagelin, Brassard, Miller
Jean/Powe, Boyle, Dorsett

Girardi, McDonagh
Moore, Staal
Stralman, Eminger/Falk

- aecliptic

I like this idea -being a big staal fan- and do think you run some
Risk by dismantling the rangers awesome D corps.

Listened to the whole interview, was really good stuff. Happy with AV, but have to admit I miss Torts and believe he would have made changes to the way he interacted with the media, utilized his players etc. But that's water under the bridge now.

We just better hope he was the problem. Not going to be much turnover with the roster. Can't afford to struggle like the Rangers did last year.

That's what I thought. Ill say it again I really was surprised Torts was let go. I figured Sather would tell Torts you have to hire an assistant for the power play and we need to adjust our system somewhat, we're spending too much time in our own zone and when we do get in the other teams zone we don't have the puck in there either. We need more puck possession.

What are everyones thoughts of bringing in Dustin Penner if it would be possible to get him for a reasonable price? His numbers aren't overwhelming, or even that impressive, but I have to admit that I do enjoy watching him. Especially in the playoffs he always seems to be a part of the play and at 6'4" and 245lbs he could bring some much needed size in, along with a solid forecheck to open up ice for smaller players such as hagelin and MZA. I am also a firm believer that hagelin has to be a 3rd line player for the rangers to seriously compete. Not that I dislike Hagelin, I actually like him a lot, but I think that is the depth needed to win the cup nowadays. Thoughts?

horton apparently visited columbus today.

good for columbus that they can actually attract FAs interest. if he signs there, man that team will be pretty good and pretty deep. with bob in net, one of the top young defenses in the league, and a solid to good group of forwards, they could be dangerous.
