He doesn't get along with the coach is what I heard. That's a far cry from a bad attitude. I agree though sub JG for SB and done deal.

I hadn't heard it that way, fair enough tho, that definitely reduces my anxiety over his name. I agree with SO that a Seguin/Monoghan 1/2 would be a great start to the rebuild if it happened. The more I think about it, I would definitely listen to an SB + Backs + Pick offer as long as it isn't a 1st. Our 1st is more than likely top 6 pick again next year. That package would have way too much value for 1 player.

The Fan 960 really likes to cultivate this thought. I'm not worried. Shultz, Knight, and Wheeler are the only players that come to mind of players that have done that. That's out of a pretty large pool of college players playing in the NHL.

Not sure I see a better opportunity for Gaudreau to break out than with the Flames so I'm right with you, not concerned.

I agree. I think you're being nice saying top 6, I think it'll be top 3.

I won't read too much into it until that day comes, but if it does, I hope he ends up in CBJ just like Timmy boy.

I would definitely be open to moving Seguin to the Flames but Baertchi would need to be apart of the package. I think Baertchi, Backlund and a pick can get it done.

To be honest, I think Flames fans started worrying about this after Walker and Boomer brought it up on the Fan. They were having a Schultz debate and suddenly Gaudreau gets brought in to it. After that, I've heard Flames fans bringing it up as a rumor despite the Gaudreau party stating they would look at getting an ELC done following graduation.

No signs of that, he's pretty much done what's asked of him without pouting about it, which for an offensive kid being asked to play a responsible game isn't always the easiest. Best I can tell he's actually had a really good attitude about it.

Bigger issue is supposedly his off-ice activities. Team feels he's been partying a bit too much and not focusing on the game as much as he should. Hence the "he needs to learn to be a pro" comments.

They probably made a call to the Calgary Sun and Eric Francis gave the "full scoop" on the "rumors". Does anyone else wonder how such a homer stays so prominent in the Calgary media?

Assigning Grades to team based on Entry Draft Selections

Before you e-mail or PM me angered by my disrespect and misjudgment of your favorite team's choice, let me one make it clear concerning this specific draft: All team GMs and fans could say how they did great. Or how poorly they did. Because of the depth this draft class at the first four tiers (See Draft Tier explanations elsewhere on DraftSite…),this draft class, from pick 1 to pick 211, may bring major contributors and impact players to many NHL teams. Whether they admit it or not, NHL teams hope that the high character youngster they select not only graduate to the pro game, but develop into high impact stars, no matter which slotting there are chosen in. This draft provides MANY chances of unearth those type players.

My grades will be based NOT on the amount of picks, but on the possibility of the drafted prospects making contributions on NHL rosters FIVE years from now.
I will start by saying the upside of this class is by far one of the finest, but I and NHL teams cannot accurate predict NHL success for them at this juncture, just draw on my opinions of the player's canvass at this particular juncture in the journey.

Of, course I will bump up grades for team where they took my favorites, or prospects are clearly ahead of the curve towards NHL long term advancement and domination. Value in the players picked and where they are picked will also be key factors.
At first glance, I like a lot of team boards.

Calgary Flames
Grade A-
Sean Monahan ( 6 )
Emile Poirier (22 )
Jorgan Klimchuk (28)

I am sure the Flames would have likes to been a bit lower with the first of their three first rounders but
GM Jay Feaster and Director of scouting Tod Button were determined to use theses picks to begin restocking the Flames thin prospects crop, because for years they used their draft picks whenever they looked for a player fix. Drafts that are strong at ever tier and run thick until almost the don't come along every season, so the planets aligned around their multiple picks, eight in all. I am not the GM in Calgary I was happy that Lindholm was off the board before the Flames ahd to select because I thought it would but Monahan offers a better player if you are looking for good ole leadership, grit, determination and and use of his size. The kid is scratching the surface and basically was placed with the weight on having to be the main man around a weak cast.In other draft years, he would go around third overall. He is strong on the puck and has tremendous upside. Granted he will never be game breaker speed wise. But no matter scouts have projected him so far, he will eventually make the Flames and will be a quality NHL player. In tight quarters, I give Lindholm the edge, because he is pretty effective and quickly generating from phone booth type space, so you sort of see he can make chances appear. I always go back and say I saw what Monahan can do in the OHL against North American type players in alll three zones, and the fact that Lindholm was playing with a bit more room in the swedish elite ponds, and hasn't been is as many phone booth situations in North America to make that the determining factor.
So when the Flames got on the clock, there was no real choice. By the time the Flames second first rounder was at the point in the draft where the fourth tier than in my opinion started around slot 23.
Some might have felt that Emile Poirier seemed kid a reach but he is a 200 foot scoring wing with good feet hand instincts, and a heavy wrister who plays tough. I see him as a future power wing. With that last pick, unbelievably Morgan Klimchuck was still available. Pure and simple he is a opportunistic goal scorer who makes game changing passes, despite his slight 160 lb frame and under six foot height. Teams that had reservations will possibly be kicking themselve in a few years. Enforcer Keegan Kanig has some major skating issues and little lateral mobility, but Flames fans can take splice in the fact that there is no seating in the first eight rows, because if any of them even looked at him, they would be in mortal danger. He is without a doubt THE best fighter and has been tougher than most in the dub since he was a 17 year old rookie. Big Eric Roy looks the part of big two way defender, and has solid offensive ability and the size and a bit of willingness to play with some physicality he just seems at this poit to not have accuse when try and go up ice, and when to outlet, and makes lost of turnovers, and since he lacks lateral mobility, he is bakes more turnover than Betty Crocker. Tim Harrison is a 2nd yr. eligible American prospect from Dexter Prep in Mass. Rushan Rafikov is an aggressive Russian stay-home defenseman, who needs to not stay home to help the Flames.

The only reason this trade SUCKS is because I'm jealous that the Oilers didn't pick him up. Good trade by the Flamers! In my opinion your rebuild is going very well. (i.e. maybe it won't take 7 fricken years like the Oilers!)
