Todd have you heard any rumblings about Baertschi, Backlund & a pick for Seguin? - whipper334
Better than the pick + Johnny Gaudreau rumour that was floating around! |

Would be nice if you could send Gaudreau instead of Baertschi in said potential deal. |

That deal does not sound good to me. |

Seguin being moved might be best for both sides, and Calgary would be a prime destination for him. Seguin and Monahan as your 1C and 2C going forward would be a great start to rebuilding the franchise. |

Damn it Wilson.... Trade McGinn (who is a great player) for Galiardi and Winnik, Lose Winink (who kills it for the Ducks) sign Burish (Crap) Lose Galiardi (who was gaining chemistry with Thorton and Burns) get a 4th rnd pick.... WTF! Can I have Ginner back please lol. Galiardi is looking for I would say 2-3 million a year which is why we have to let him go and got Kennedy for a 2nd rnd pick from Pit... Wait I am so confused! |

Do you mean from Calgary's standpoint? Gaudreau is not on the same level as Baertschi imo. |

I'd do the Backlund + Gaudreau + Pick but I would not do it with baertschi in the deal. Not a (frank)ing chance. Backs finally started to look good last year and Baertschi is a great attitude, high potential player. I'd prefer this to Seguin and the talk of his bad attitude. |

Your opinion was correct and yes, I'm pretty sure he meant from Calgary's POV. |

Really seems strange for the sharks, but it must of been about making space for bodies.
But for a 2015 4th... wow. |

Gaudreau is an insane player.. I`d be more upset if we lost him at this point. Watching the two of them at development camp, you could tell both of them were special players.
Baertschi reads the play and gets to the right places according to the play. Probably our best player on the half-boards now that Bouw is gone. Gaudreau finds his spot and tears off on a breakaway every couple shifts. He doesnt miss often either, always top-shelf full speed. His play at World Juniors this year was good but most of his points were from the side of the net. |

I see what you mean but development camp is a far cry from the NHL especially in regards to the size hurdle he is faced with. I like what I see from Gaudreau, but he is nowhere near the level of Baertschi at this point. |

Just an aside because although this was rumoured...and still is actually, it would have to involve our best prospect because Seguin is a known quantity. JG is super skilled but my feeling is he's worthless until they sign him. Sven is on entry level, great bang for the buck and the Flames could take Tylers cap hit no sweat. Makes sense on many levels except the one where it actually happens! |

My issue with it is the inclusion of both Backlund and Baertschi. I agree that is what it takes but it's definitely not my preferred route. On a side note, haven't seen you around for a while SO. Welcome back. |

Nowhere? You realize this player has been arguably the best player in the NCAA for the last couple years. He was a pivotal component of the gold medal winning USA team at world juniors. Baertschi was good at world juniors a couple years ago but far from dominant (that is before he got his bell rung and sat out).
He was on a worse team at WJHC but you can still tell when a player is dominant despite their team being bad. Marko Dano comes to mind in that aspect. Tobias Reider as well.
Maybe watch Gaudreau play a little more. Most of my friends underrated him until they sat down and watched him play. The guy is unstoppable.

Seguin > pretty much any player prospect flames have ... I would easily hand over 1 of Sven or Johnny hockey |

Too much success means more likely to go the Shultz route, basically untradeable until he's signed. He could simply walk away UFA. |

He doesn't get along with the coach is what I heard. That's a far cry from a bad attitude. I agree though sub JG for SB and done deal. |

I think back, beart, a draft pick would be the START. If they are truly rebuilding though having Seguin, Monahan would go a long way towards that. |

I'm not looking at his skill. Look at his size. It is going to be difficult for him to transition to a league where the average size has got to be ~20-30 lb's heavier (major guess here). |

The Fan 960 really likes to cultivate this thought. I'm not worried. Shultz, Knight, and Wheeler are the only players that come to mind of players that have done that. That's out of a pretty large pool of college players playing in the NHL. |

"Break" was the wrong word. My apologies. You did have a blog up before TSN had a story on it though. |
