So what you are saying then is that he could be gone anyway? OK then. All the more reason not to throw the bank at him. Nothing worse than a potentially overpaid, impatient and ungrateful 22 year old kid with potential to be some undefinable degree of better. - Return of the Roar
You offer Leddy what you consider to be a fair offer compared to what others such as Subban, etc. have signed for. I would guess between $2-3 million. If he and his agent go get an offer sheet, you make the decision of his value to the team at that price. If it is less than the 3.3 to get a 1st and 3rd you probably come up with a little more cash to match. If it is significantly more than that you have a decision to make. You have to remember that while on this team he is a borderline 2nd pairing d-man, he is definitely a top 4 on a lot of other teams even if he never develops beyond his current level. Therefore he will not be overpaid in the sense that he will always have value. |

A lot of money to give a guy in his early thirties..... - UnnamedSource
For a guy who just had back to back 30 goal seasons and has had 20+ goals 7/8 season I think he deserved the money, maybe not the amount of years. |

I'm sorry, I don't really know where all the love for Rosy is coming from. Did he play good, yes but he also holds onto the puck too long for stretches and didn't even seem to trust his d-partner to pass him the biscuit. Sign him at a minimum salary or see ya! - sguenther11
The love comes from the fact that the failures of those he replaced - namely Lepisto, ODonnell, Hendry, Montador, Olsen, Scott, Campoli and Cullimore, are the very reasons we did not contend for a Cup for two years. Their inability to be trusted for any amount of time on the ice is why Keith had to play 33 minutes and Q only went 4 deep. |

So you would be good with $2.5MM/per as a reasonable ceiling for his next deal?
Kinda what I said.... |

making a lot of assumptions there. like 99% of the players in this league, he will take the most money offered to him and might take a slightly lesser deal to stay with a winner. |

I like the guy a lot, but he platooned with Brookbank for half of the shortened regular season. How is he going to hold up for a full 82 games? |

Dennis Potvin on NHL Radio on Sirius xM just stated that the Hawks would be a perfect fit for Vinne @ 3 year $12 million - scottak
Potvin knows the cap is going down, right?

He is an RFA not a UFA, so this hometown discount/go elsewhere for more is not making lots of sense. He either gets "market value" by what a team sends (and Hawks can match the offer) or the Hawks give him what he wants now and he signs. - BearsnHawks
not if he is negotiation a multi-year deal to stay with Hawks |

Thats what I think is fair and hope we get him for. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets offered above 3 million and if we don't get at least a 1st and a 3rd we need to match the offer. |

He didn't have to. Q had a deep d-corps and needed to keep both of them fresh.
Rozival almost singlehandedly shut down the hawks offense in 2012! He needs to be signed! |

That would be the Hawks giving him what he wants, otherwise he will wait for a team to offer him (that will be what his agent wants). |

Unreal. There always has to be one. When you complain about him holding onto the puck too long, do you celebrate other d-men who get rid of it too fast? How many hot potato flings from Oduya, Leddy or Hammer ended up in yet ANOTHER icing? But lets complain about a guy who is patient.
The love for Rosy comes from the fact he was our 2nd best d-man in the Cup Finals. HIS PATIENCE and ability to withstand a forecheck is what allowed the Hawks to gain possession instead of a fling up to the other team's point man. When Keith was out, Rosy stepped up...when Leddy was ineffective and given 3 minutes Rosy stepped up...when our powerplay was a disgrace Rosy got time on that unit and contributed to one of our better power plays...when we needed a d-man to actually get the puck on net Rosy stepped up.
Rosy was INSTRUMENTAL in delivering a Cup to Chicago and is a large reason that Nick Leddy made a jump up this year...his size, toughness, character, leadership and ability to do any number of jobs in a credible fashion underlies WHY many of us really like the guy. The guy has been one of the steadiest d-men in hockey for a lot of years and the fact we have him on the third pairing (with a young talent like Leddy) really defines what it means to have an embarrassment of riches. |

I think he is looking for 2.5-3 mil and if we offer it to him he gets what he wants. If we don't offer him that he will go to free agency, with his QO, and hopes he gets something else. |

Needed. Exactly. Rosival is 2 years older in 2014 than he was in 2012, and was not the only member of the Phoenix team that had a strategy to limit the Hawks and executed it well. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, and I would be happy to keep him, but not if it means breaking the bank. I question his durability. |

Most welcome. this "he holds onto the puck" meme is beyond hysterical. I guess those are the people who stand up and cheer when the Hawks ice the puck or fling it to the other team's point.
I'd like to get Rosy back for the same salary as last year if possible. He would also be a great guy to groom someone like Ryan Stanton.
Yes, we need to pace him because he's got some wear on the tires, but if we can keep him fresh for post-season look the heck out. Between Rosy, Brookbank and Stanton I think we can do just that. |

I will take Rosi for another year! Even if we know he may not play every game. Could be a good way to get Stanton broken in. Knowing Stanton will play some, but doesn't need to exactly be counted on come playoff time. |

It was reported that one of the reasons Raanta signed was because of access to a goalie coach with the minor league team. He did not expect to be in the NHL right away. Best thing for him is to do what Niemi did - adjust to the smaller ice and NA game full time in the AHL first. - tredbrta
Yep and people jumped to conclusions.
Raanta knows he has things to learn and will do so while making $70,000 in the AHL after his bonus. |
