Love the move, when/if it's official. Hedger your bets against CC wanting major coin next season. Ray must like it here. |

There's no "might" in that statement - signing Emery to a three year deal and Rantaa specifically tells Crawford: enjoy your last year in Chicago my friend & thanks for the memories. - CaptainBlackhawk
It's not that harsh. It tell Crow and his agent that the Hawks have leverage. They will probably offer $3-4m. He may understand the value of the system and take it.
If Emery takes $1.5m - he either values the system, team and the city or he understands his hip will not hold up as a starter.... or both. |

Haha...
Dale Tallon drafted him (his first ever pick as GM)
Dale Tallon traded for him
Dale Tallon cut him

Intersting player if 100% is Manny Maholtra.
VG defensively and vg on draws.
I heard awhile ago he was going to try to comeback from his eye problem. - Al
I'd take him, if he's healthy and willing to play on the cheap.

Again... they never have and they never will pay a goaltender $3-4 mil a year when they have other, more important assets to sign next offseason (Hammer, Toews/Kane extension).
Of course they Hawks have leverage - but there will be MANY teams that will be willing to give Crawford more money than the Hawks are willing to give him. Especially on the UFA market.
Emery probably wasn't remotely getting a three year deal from any team on the UFA market. Teams probably would be willing to offer more money for a one or even two year deal. Emery is signing for the stability of the deal. He'd certainly get much more than $1.5 mil/year on a short term deal from another team. |

I hate to be that guy to bring up Hossa but I wanna bounce an idea off you guys. If there is an NHL expansion in the coming years, do you think the hawks are holding on to Hossa to put him into the expansion draft? Just a wild thought. I don't want people getting all up in arms about how he is going to be fine or he should have been bought out. Just a thought - erhryck
That would be a convenient way to keep him for a few more years and then avoid a penalty for an early buyout/retirement. Even if he's past his prime, a new club/new city would surely bring him on as a recognizable name to help sell tickets.

I'm told the Hawk strategy going in to unrestricted free agency is to look for Michal Rozsival-like veteran players to approach them (perhaps including Rozsival) on potentially cap friendly short-term deals—with the hopes of winning a Cup or at least going far in the playoffs.
Given this strategy what about Matt Cullen from Minn? Might he come cheep to get another shot at a cup. - PuckMaster
I'd take Cullen over Malhotra in a heartbeat, but he may be tougher to snag on a cap-friendly deal. I think he was making $3.5M on his current deal? Even $2M would be a huge pay cut.

IMHO. Lalonde is a joke on these boards, Beach never panned out, Sauve was a nothing deal at the dealine, Don't know much about Lavin, but seems like Hawks have a lot of prospects, and if he isnt making a name, he's gone
