Nick Leddy signed for 2yr.s

- Beaver-Warrior

And who the heck exactly am I that you believe me!

I just figured maybe I should use that twitter account.
At least now, we can figure how much money is there for all their internal signings, and I think them we will get an idea if the can actually bring some veteran piece either to replace the guys leaving, or if they want to come back cheap...

I guess Sheehy is either a genius at the table and Leddy is rich, and he SAID Leddy never wanted to leave because they got THEIR deal, or Ledy got less because he really loves playing in the Indianhead sweater...

Looks like the Leddy deal will indeed be for two years. Terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed.

I think that bringing back Leddy is definitely the right move. As far as the dollar figures go, if it goes for anything more than what P.K. Subban received, it'll be fairly disappointing.

I'm expecting somewhere around $2.5 million annually ... hopefully.

No news on Emery or Kruger yet. I expect Kruger to be taken care of next (before Friday obviously.)

He did win back-to-back Stanley Cups.

He's either a good-luck charm, or he's one helluva coach

In 2010-11 he had two bad games in the series vs the Hawks, pulled in game 4 after allowing 6 goals in 2+ periods, and as a mid game injury replacement for Schnieder in game 5, when he then gave up 5 goals. So yes, two very crap games. Then he recovered to shut down the Hawks with a .969 save percentage in game 7 to clinch the series. That same year he had 15 playoff wins, one short of a Cup, and had a .914 save percentage overall including those two crap games.

Two consecutive bad games (one in relief) followed by 12 wins isn't choking. The year before when the Hawks defeated Vancouver on the way to winning the Cup, yep, Luongo had a bad playoffs overall.

His other playoff seasons have been good. I'm just saying, it's amazing the power the media has to brainwash people into thinking something. Just because he's on the enemy team doesn't mean he sucks or chokes, etc. You can not like him, that's fine, but he's still one of the elite goalies in the league.

I understand your point, but when you are carrying that large of a contract, there has been very little tolerance for having a bad series or worse yet an entire playoff. He also had a rough series in '09 against the Hawks. The year the Hawks went to the WCF and lost to the Wings.

By your own admission he had a rough outing in '10. In '11 he looked shaken early against the Hawks and came within a win of the Cup, and was questionable even last year, wasn't he?

Luongo hasn't been able to carry his team team to a Cup and hasn't shown mental fortitude in any of those series. Then you get guys like Quick and Tim Thomas before that who singlehandedly just about carried their respective teams on their backs to win a Cup.

I also recall his post game interviews and he came across (to me at least) with very little humility.

I have two boys who play the position so I have a soft spot for guys who play goal, but as you can tell I am not a big fan of his. I just think he doesn't have the mental strength to get it done.

Kruger should be locked in for around $2 million. Possible a tad less, possibly a tad more. But nonetheless, it should be very affordable, especially considering the fact that he has not even hit his prime yet.

Rozy is more interesting in my opinion. Does he take the same $2 million dollar contract that he did this season? Will he settle for less given the fact that they just won the cup and he wants to stay with a contender? Or will he demand an increase in salary due to how well he played in the playoffs and the stability he brought.

I'm worried about the PK next season. I hope Stan signs a decent 4C who can pair up with Kruger. I'm going to miss the Kruger/Frolik pairing on the PK, we were lucky to have that duo last season.
- DarthKane

I have a hunch Saad can replace Fro on the PK. Something about that just feels like a plan.

It's about what Rozy thinks he has left in the tank. In spite of facing an 82 game season next year, he can effectively platoon with Brookbank, Stanton, or anyone else in Rockford, and still in theory have legs for the post-season, while mentoring the youngins. With a Cup on his résumé, he may stay for less or hang em up.

So who knows the RFA rules? Will Leddy be RFA or UFA after this 2 year deal?

Ideally, it's that one. Considering what else is out there on the market, it looks like as if he is the best available option for that respective price range. I think chemistry also plays a huge role, and the fact that he has played with Leddy all year will make it easier for Nick to develop his game. I also think that he could also platoon with Brookbank some nights given the fact that he is 34-years-old (will be 35 by the start of the next season.) He has also now won a cup, so it makes perfect sense for him to sign for a one year deal before he likely hangs them up.

RFA. Has to be at least 25 with three years of pro experience to be a Class 6 UFA.

I have the exact same feeling as you do. The reason that Michael Frolik was so successful on the penalty kill aside for the fact that he had very good instincts was the fact that he played the game at 110% every single time he stepped on the rink. No 'Hawk played as hard all year as he did. He didn't take any shifts off.
Brandon Saad also plays hard on the ice. He's fast, he's got some good size, and he doesn't half-a.ss it on the ice. I think that he has what it takes to be a successful penalty-killer. Given the fact that he will likely no longer play on the top line with Toews and Hossa/Kane, he'll play on the third or fourth lines, where he'll definitely have to improve his defensive game. As far as that goes, I could certainly see him killing penalties in the near future.

The two year deal implies that he didn't get all that much.
Too bad the dynamic duo needs re-upping in two years....

- wiz1901

I thought that too - need to re-do Leddy - for dramatically more dollars, we hope - at the same time as the wonder twins.

Unless his eventual replacement is already around.
