Ill ask again here, what is the hawks cap situation with bickell signed and I guess if Emery is locked up as well. What does that leave the hawks with? - nickmo2699
Looks like about 8 mil to spread across Kruger Leddy, and then 4 more roster spots. |

$1.5M per year is a real solid value, not sure what you would be expecting there.
I actually like the multiple years because it gives the team options if Crawford walks. Still have Emery for 2 more seasons in the event Raanta has growing pains for flat out doesn't pan out. - FredoXV
Exactly this and the reason Emery is signed to a very cap friendly three year deal. |

The Hawks will never give CC more than 3 mil/season--and ultimately why he isn't here after next season and why Emery is getting wrapped up long term. - CaptainBlackhawk
I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but it blows my mind that they had no problem paying Bickell $4M on the HOPE he doesn't go back to his usual self, yet could be reluctant to pay the same to a starting goalie they won the Cup with. I mean, if a bit over $1M of cap hit a year keeps your goaltending at the level it is, it OUGHT to be a no brainer. |

Perhaps you haven't watched the last 20 or so years of Scotty/Stan Bowman do business. Take a look at how they've conducted business - highly successfully - and it will all make complete sense to you. |

I know their history very well, but that doesn't necessarily mean it makes sense with this team. |

clearly you don't know this team and it's own history. and by history i mean "the last four years" as the last four years has shown proof of how the Bowman philosophy can work very well.

It makes complete sense.
You have the best blue line in hockey and fits their mold completely. Next offseason you need to worry about a key component of that blue line in Hammer getting signed long term and begin to worry about getting Kane/Toews signed long term. There will be ZERO money to pay a slightly above average goaltender $4-5 mil per season. |

I have a sneaking suspicion in the FO (just like there is from many of us here) that there might be some doubts that Corey is in that uppermost of goaltender echelons. $5MM/per is elite goalie money. Is he really an elite goalie, or just a really solid one playing behind an elite defensive corps ?
Not to stir this pot again, as I know we can argue ad nauseum, but winning the cup does not (necessarily) an elite goaltender make. Just saying... |

There's no "might" in that statement - signing Emery to a three year deal and Rantaa specifically tells Crawford: enjoy your last year in Chicago my friend & thanks for the memories. |

Krugs and Leddy will probably be about 4.5 combined, so then 3 and half for 1 dman which will be Stanton, then probably a million and half for a Jones type guy and they'll have like a million left over for a minor piece at the deadline. Is how I guess it plays out |

Gotcha! We don't want to go down that path of Crawford being an "elite/5 mil per year" goaltender. Because, well.. he isn't. |

We need to move Brookbank if possible....either that or he will play a role on the team next year as a 6th d-man. Brookbank and Leddy worry me |

I added Ryan Jones as a potential free agent depth signing for the 3rd line in my CapGeek lineup a couple nights ago.
I think the fit makes plenty of sense. |

I don't see him as elite either, but I do see him as being good-very good. I'm arguing he should be offered $4M to stay, as I agree the Hawks can't really afford too much more than that. That being said, they used the same "it doesn't matter who's in goal because our D is so good" philosophy in 2011, and Turco put a quick stop to that one. Goalie is the last line of defense. Look at the boneheaded mistakes even #2 makes at times. You could have injuries, guys having bad years. Why ASSUME the D will be dominant at all times?
Personally, I would ALWAYS want the best possible net minder on my team, no matter how good my defense is. |

Did I read this right? $3.5 million for Stanton?
More than likely, Stanton gets Bollig type money, for just above the league minimum. |

That's about $1 mil more than they would be comfortable in signing him to - with Hammer, Kane, Toews coming up. You can't sign them all and why Frolik and Bolland are both gone.
Turco is the ONE example you're using. I'll spout back to you and say Niemi and Crawford along with Emery and even Osgood before him all 100% verify exactly that the motto is spot on correct.
And it's not an assumption that the D will be dominant at all times - when you have Hammer, Leddy, Oduya, Keith, Seabs etc.. you know your defense is dominant. And FYI THE reason why they won a Cup THIS year. |

I don't think it says that at all. If Crawford wants too much money then he is gone. If he wants to stay and take a discount then the Hawks can move emery and make room for Raanta to come up. It really just gives Stan the upper hand when it come to negotiating with Crawford next summer. |
