So Letang signs basically the same deal he rejected a few days ago. $2 mil more total. I wonder what the actual sticking point was.

UPDATE: Ok, there is a limited NMC, that's probably what the difference was. Letang can name 12 teams at the start of every season he will not accept a trade to.

What would you guys think if you read on other teams boards, them plugging in Toews, or Sharp or Keith or Shaw etc...?

My God Simmons is getting paid that money because the team values him. He is not for sale for any asinine trade idea.

I like Simmons a lot. I was mad when LA traded him and we didn't get him.

How do people feel about Emery supposedly about to sign for 3 years? I think that sounds very risky with his hip, but I'm just a fan and the Hawks have the medical reports so they must feel good about him.

I agree, the Flyers could miss the playoffs again next season. Also, if the cap doesn't increase significantly in 2014/2015 they might have to sell off even more.
- DarthKane

Highly unlikely considering it's only happened twice in 20 years.

The hip was a non-issue this year. Much less so than a year ago - where he looked like he could be had side to side.

I like the signing. If Crow goes next year you have Emery and Raanta as a committee until Raanta hopefully takes over. Assuming there is no NMC then, if Crow stays, you can move Emery or Raanta for a decent return.

You have NO GOALIE

They haven't had one in years, and they still more often than not find a way to contend.

The lineup actually looks pretty good. You have real injury risk on D and could upgrade. Thomas and Mason could be great or awful. Aren't Thomas's rights still the Islander's though? Someone else will go and it may not be MEskwhathisface.

Still a no class building and city though. No fan assaults in Boston during the finals this year - unlike Philly in 10 where even player's mothers were being pelted in the stands.

Before everyone starts elevating Raanta as a possible starting goalie replacement, let's see how he does with a season in North America first. Just sayin'.

I did say "hopefully". That is really the big risk - if he flops at either level they may be scrambling. If he has a solid showing in the Rock then they have real leverage with Crow.

I didn't mean to direct it at you, that wasn't my intention. I've just seen half a dozen posts with this idea in mind. After seeing Salak in Rockford, I'll wait to see Raanta before even thinking of the notion of saying he could "hopefully" replace Crawford next season.

Glad they resigned Emery, but the $/years seem a bit high. Nothing on a 2C, then?
- Q...argh

Is 2c still a priority ? They've won 2 cups without one .

Its too bad Philly already used their compliance buyouts. Was hoping they would have one and use it on Vinnie next year. That would be cool to read on the back of Vinnies hockey card. Is the only player in NHL history to have been CBOed twice...but...drat...
- TrueGrit

Good point!.....I know the Flyers have 11 million coming off the books next year...but you have Giroux and a few young players to sign plus no goalie....and a thin defense....

Tow big contracts given to two guys (Streit and Lecavalier) who will be 38 & 40 at the end of their contracts....with NO MOVEMENT CLAUSES....bad.....just bad.

The Flyers have Steve Mason, former rookie of the year. They'll fix him...

...who the (frank) am I kidding? The Flyers have NO GOALIE!

If your hockey team began the season with Tim Thomas (after a year of a self induced break at the age of 39) and Steve Mason as your goalie tandem.......you would become a basketball fan.

The more I think about it the more I like trying for briere. I think he still has something left, especially playing with Hossa and Sharp. Most of the Cup team will be back. Have a few guys like smith, morin, and carcillo take bolland and fro's places. I think we have a good chance at repeating. Besides a lot of our high-end prospects won't be ready yet. They will next year.

I think if the Hawks want Briefe and Hendricks for 2nd and 4th line centers they can get that done

I thought Dylan Olsen looked really good in 2011-12 when he got the chance to play, I'd like the Hawks to give him a good look next season as well as Stanton or even Clendening. Re signing Roszival for another year would provide the Hawks with quality veteran depth on the blueline, but that may limit the opportunities for the young guys. I also feel Brookbank is crowding the lower part of the blueline and could or maybe should be let go. Lol

It will be interesting to see what Bowman elects to do.

No problem. Agree completely.

Any idea how the players feel about Dent? Wish they had a better player development guy in Rockford.

If you're content with contending....Steve Mason might or might not be your guy.
