Real cheap which I don't think happens. I recall he makes around 3 mil per. - golfbard
Compared to the contracts that are being dished out now, as well as the security of having him under contract for the next six years is definitely something that is appealing.
He's got size at 6'2" he gets to the dirty areas, plays in front of the net, hits, is not afraid to get scrappy, and he works his a.ss off on the rink.
Put him on the second line with Kane and Sharp and enjoy the show |

Of course I'd love Simmonds in Chicago, but with a cap hit of $3.975 per season I don't see that happening. Maybe some of their lower end guys (cost wise) could be trade targets for Stan. I would be impressed if Stan could find a way to pry Courtier away from Philly. Homer is going to be looking for draft picks, I'd have no issue with Stan being aggressive. - DarthKane
With no cap space...they would have to get rid of two big contracts.....which makes your team weaker....seriously and then you have to add a goalie....so signing lecavalier means you lose two big contracts.....it's essentially like making a trade.....and all that money for a 35 year old....WITH A FULL NO MOVEMENT!!!!! I'm getting chest pains......from laughing so hard. |

Leafs as expected bought out Komisarek so they are 20 mil under so they have plenty of room to sign Bozak (offer is apparently out there) and MacArthur |

I agree, the Flyers could miss the playoffs again next season. Also, if the cap doesn't increase significantly in 2014/2015 they might have to sell off even more. |

Still not as delicious as Esplen declaring Schneider was worth an all-star caliber player, 1st rounder, and prospect, then waxing as if it's all champagne and roses the very next day when all they got was the pick. |

Trading Oduya, prospects, and a draft pick in exchange for Simmonds (likely a pipe dream.)
- Trading Brookbank and Carcillo for chump change
- Signing Ference to a slight discount because he wants a chance to compete and he's like 34 years old (still efficient).
- Leddy takes the NEXT STEP UP in his game and warrants ice time with Hammer. Rozy and Ference form a veteran, efficient third line pairing

They buy out Bryz and Brierre for cap space and flexibility....sign Streit and Lecavalier both mid thirties....do they know they don't .....have...to....sign....every one?
...and you have to sign Giroux next year..... |

Hal Gill on waivers. Yes he's old, but he's a smart, classy player who blocks a ton of shots. Plus he's huge. Worth the $2 mil for just one year in my opinion. |

Philly can't take any salary back so it has to be a prospect...the Hawks would have to make a deal before a trade with Philly |

Did I read this right? $3.5 million for Stanton?
More than likely, Stanton gets Bollig type money, for just above the league minimum. - EKolb13

I large part of our team's succes comes from the defense. Spots 5-7 would worry me, Rozsival is great but he should be sharing the 6th spot with somebody, he wouldn't survive an 82 game schedule.
I know a lot of people see Oduya as expendable but I think it would be a big mistake to deal him. Sure, Oduya serves up the odd pizza but he moves the puck well and plays very well defensively. Until Leddy improves on the defensive aspect of his game Oduya stays.

I thought the trade for Simmonds was terrible for the Flyers for what they gave up (I do like Simmonds a lot). But this GM's crazy signings are terrible.... |

Im gonna chime in..... Not even close on the sell off - they will have no problems signing giroux, coots, schenn next year. Lose mez and they are cap compliant this season. What I think happens next is they trade a combo or maybe all of coots, coburn, read, pick for a #1 dman. Just a hunch.
Vinny adds size, 60 points , and most importantly face off wins for slightly more than what you guys just paid bickell.... A guy who scored 37 points at his best.... 3 seasons ago.
I like the signing. Go Philly !
And Simmonds is not going anywhere |
