I will take Rosi for another year! Even if we know he may not play every game. Could be a good way to get Stanton broken in. Knowing Stanton will play some, but doesn't need to exactly be counted on come playoff time.
- droe411

Look at the free agent list for d-men. Absolutely no one interests me (other than guys like Ference who would be getting too much). Mark Fistric? Marc Andre Bergeron? Scott Hannan? I hope Rosy takes a low risk deal...if he is banking on improving on his 2 million salary then yea...he's probably not gonna be resigned. Considering he should not be played in all 82 games it is incumbent for the Hawks to get him at a good cost.

His value won't be realized until we really need him (playoffs).

I'm sorry, I don't really know where all the love for Rosy is coming from. Did he play good, yes but he also holds onto the puck too long for stretches and didn't even seem to trust his d-partner to pass him the biscuit. Sign him at a minimum salary or see ya!
- sguenther11

Apparently, you were in a coma during O'donnel's year.

Rosival brought everything they needed from a 5-6 d man plus some. When Keith was out against the Kings who played 30 mins?

If they can keep him at the same price or even a bit higher it would be worth it to me.

The mistake was giving Brookbank a 2 year deal.

The love comes from the fact that the failures of those he replaced - namely Lepisto, ODonnell, Hendry, Montador, Olsen, Scott, Campoli and Cullimore, are the very reasons we did not contend for a Cup for two years. Their inability to be trusted for any amount of time on the ice is why Keith had to play 33 minutes and Q only went 4 deep.

Does the qualifying offer mean they have to wait for an OS or can they negotiate with Leddy in the meantime?

I like the guy a lot, but he platooned with Brookbank for half of the shortened regular season. How is he going to hold up for a full 82 games?
- Lash8

He would still need to be platooned during the RS but who better to teach a guy like Stanton or Johns?

you sitting on the negotiations, hugh?
- Sconnie

Nope, just educated guess, by history of his agent and what other d-men make

He can be a solid contributor, no doubt, and I hope they can keep him, I just hope they can keep him on the cheap. Without a whole lot of cap space, I'd have a hard time stomaching more than $1.5M for a guy who can't play a full season, unless they can keep Leddy for 2.5 or less. Then maybe 2M for Rosy. I suppose we'll see what happens. Qualifying offers had to be tendered this afternoon, right?

QO needs to be given by, I believe today, to all RFA's. If they aren't they become UFA's. After a QO is given the player can wait to sign it, hoping for someone to offer him a contract, that he agrees on, and then the team that gave him the QO has the opportunity to match it. If they don't they get compensated based on salary of deal.

Team that QO the player can also continue to negotiate a deal. I believe all QO's are 1 yr deals and are predetermined by the CBA.

Most welcome. this "he holds onto the puck" meme is beyond hysterical. I guess those are the people who stand up and cheer when the Hawks ice the puck or fling it to the other team's point.

I'd like to get Rosy back for the same salary as last year if possible. He would also be a great guy to groom someone like Ryan Stanton.

Yes, we need to pace him because he's got some wear on the tires, but if we can keep him fresh for post-season look the heck out. Between Rosy, Brookbank and Stanton I think we can do just that.

- kwolf68

Agreed on that. I just hope they move Brookbank and find another veteran for cheap to replace him.

There are a number of UFAs looking for big $$$$ in a year with a smaller cap.

You would think someone like Bozak would call the Hawks and look for a 1 year deal at a real discount and then showcase himself here and jump into the UFA market next year with an expanding cap and more money to go around.

Vinny, Horton, Briere etc... will get their money BUT the kind of in between guys like Bozak, Hainsey, Clowe, MacCarthur, Weiss, Raymond and several more could use a year to show they have come back (Clowe and Weiss) or are legitimately worth those big $$$ deals.

I hope the Hawks FO gets out and recruits a few of these types or hears from their agents.

If player thinks QO isn't fair they can apply for arbitration, in which a panel compares stats from player to similar players in league and puts forth a new salary. Team that QO'd that player has the option to match or let them be a FA (happened to Niemi and Campolli). Hjalmarsson was offer sheeted by SJ and we matched.

That's if the player has arbitration rights.

Ek reporting that the Hawks are a possible destination for Briere....

I will be very shocked if Stan's dip into the free agent pool is for anything more than a 4th line centre. I believe Stan when he says they want to give some of the young guys a chance.

Yep...Needed no doubt but the reason the NHL will drag their feet is because a lot of "parity" is created under the current point system....artificially.

Yes, I should have added that as well. Thanks for the correction - a 4C and 6D. There are a lot of options out there for both roles, hopefully Stan shops wisely.

There seems to be mixed emotions about trying Pirri as the 2C. We won't know what he's capable of at the NHL level until he gets some decent playing time. I'm fine with Stan starting with Pirri, but keeping him on a short leash.

I'd be happy with a 5th, but I expect nothing.

TJ's situation was different, he was an RFA.

I have to chuckle on the 2nd line center talk....Lats summer at this time Kane was that guy and he never took a shift at 2nd line center in camp.

We will see..

Stalberg is a UFA, I believe. Doesn't apply.
