the kings don't have the assets for tyler seguin...and if he's an immature pro, unleashing him on hollywood seems like the worst idea ever.
- hiway39

We do have the assets, but we'd obviously have to part with pieces we're uncomfortable moving. Lombardi must have some idea what Boston wants, so it'll be interesting to see if anything gets done.

Hey Capt didnt expect to meet you here. I didnt know you multi task?

Looks more and more like Nabby becomes our prime option.

Not happy about that. He looked drained during PO's after only playing 40 games last season.

What about Jason Labarbera? With him out west I dont get to see him play.

The implications of Vinny coming to the Flyers is a head scratcher I think...We still have Laughton and Cousins at center waiting to come up...the 5 Games laughton came up he did not look out of place even thought he did not have a point...Coots doesn't get the minutes he needs to grow and you can't keep him on the third line and expect him to be a number 2 center..esp when you are asking him to take big shifts to help shut down the #1 line on the other team...so for the log jam at center this makes no sense long term...then there is the cap issue, Vinny will get paid 4.7 for the next 2 years, 3.7 in year 3, and 1.7M for like 50 years for his buy out...if he is still asking for 5M a year for 5 years for and average of ~50 points per year (assuming his numbers don't drop further) that is bad money...while in a Non-Cap environment the flyers could be fine, the cap hit is not worth it, when other guys have proven they can put up numbers like that for less (and they are younger)...besides driving up the price...I just don't know how this works long term without moving Laughton to get someone like Shea Weber (another Cap nightmare) since Nashville still has no offense...

Very true, but if you think about the coburn rumors, if we trade him, we are lacking Defense. So maybe a trade with read packaged with laughton or cousins and a draft pick could a attract another Defenseman to replace Coburn. just a thought.

Vinny was actually traded to the flyers sometime before the 06 season. An upper level person in the lightning organization killed the deal.. His equipment bag had been packed by one of the equipment managers. Never found out who was going to Tampa. Info came from a former tbl employee years ago....maybe was told this on 07
- Steelmanpa

yeah because, the equipment manager is always the first to know, especially when a deal is not final.

GM's tell equipment managers to pack players bags when deals aren't final ALL the time.

I agree, I think the Flyers do have some options for trades to help the team and need to unload Coburn or Mezy to free some more room...just for a 5 year deal that seems a bit much for a guy that seems to be on the downswing and may only give you ~50 points, it doesn't look good 3 years from now if the cap only grows by 7% per year...and I like Vinny's game and would like to see him as a Flyer, Just not a 5M per year...maybe 3.5, 3.5, 4, 5 and 5, when added to the money he is making from TB, is still about 7 million a year...at 5 per year he is asking to stay right at 10M with the combination and he is not a 10M (and I think a 3M bonus on top) kind of player TB was paying him for...he is a 5-7M player now...

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, it's 'very possible, although not quite a guarantee,' that Vincent Lecavalier will choose his next team by the end of Wednesday.

Lecavalier, who's allowed to speak with teams earlier than other unrestricted free agents because his contract was bought out, has been deliberating with family on the best fit.

LeBrun reiterated that the Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames have all shown interest and that any deal with the Canadiens depends on whether he wants to 'go home' and deal with both the perks and detriments of playing there.

LeBrun adds that if the Habs are the team, it will not be for the same kind of money or term other clubs would have offered and that he would put on the bleu, blanc et rouge because he 'really, really wants' to be one.

While Nashville Predators GM David Poile suggested to his local media Tuesday that Lecavalier would prefer to stay in the East, LeBrun reports that it 'does not preclude him from playing in Dallas' and that the Stars are a 'solid possibility' if he wants to remain in a quiet, non-traditional hockey place like he did playing in Tampa.

First, and there is no way the sweepstakes are down to Philly and Dallas, Dallas I believe, but Philly in this scenario is just another typical Eklund believing Philly is on everything rumor.

I wouldn't say Read means more honestly. im a big fan of him and the flyers, but he entered late and i think he is 27 now? This will be his third season, but he is gonna command too much money that he can get elsewhere and be great. He doesn't have the leadership Vinny has, nor a Cup, but Read does have great character, which he showed last year when he came back weeks early from his rib injury. We could get a nice trade for Read given his contract his so small
- arichardson22

I get where you're going and I've seen that argument before but we don't really know what $$$ Read will command. His energy and defensive capabilities are a huge upside.

Despite being 27 by season's start he is still improving and hasn't hit his ceiling quite yet. When you look at 2011-2012 (Read's rookie year 79 GP/Vinny 64 GP) Read averaged more Points per min played than Vinny and ended plus 13 to Vinny's -5. Vinny is also on the down swing.

From My standpoint I like the guy but they just got rid of Danny who they could've gotten under the cap with. They committed to youth and patience and Vinny for 5 yrs and 5 Mill per is not that.

When Vinny signs with the FLyers it's going to be funny reading everyone making excuses that say the FLyers can't sign him. When Homer wants a player he gets him more than not.

Before a non Flyer fan does this...Parise, Sutter, Hamhuis, Nabakov....and I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting..

Edit: Not disagreeing with you, when he want's a guy he does what it takes to get them. Just preemptive striking on the response you're going to see.

Flyers never wanted Suter or Parise, we may have made the offer, however Homer did this to drive the price up so the Pens couldn't get both of them. Instead they went to the wild, a team the flyers rarely play

question, why the hell would Vinny choose Dallas over Philly. Philly has much more talent and potential than Dallas

I could see the Flyers offering a stupid contract like (5-6 years) $5 million+

And they should because they can buy him out in a couple years. That's the great advantage of having an owner who spends money.

Dallas might not be west coast, but they do have the brutal western conference travel. Vinny might prefer Detroit or Philly, as 2C on either team, with the lighter travel and easier conference.

Edit:

Per John Shannon:
Red Wings have been told they are not in the Vinny Lecavalier bidding war. Sounds like he's close to deciding.

If we were to buy him out he'd still carry a cap hit on the team until the contract expires...

I think they would've wanted them. You don't bid on a guy if you have NO desire to have them because if they accept you have an issue. they missed out on other opportunities waiting to hear back from those two and were a weaker team this year due to that. There's no way they only offered to them to keep them from the Pens because they screwed themselves in that process too.

They wanted them for the right price and it had the added bonus of making it more expensive for other teams.

The logic then becomes they really really want Vinny so will outbid other and that would be a mistake.

My dream would be to sign Vinny and CLarkson. Then trade some of our dmen and draft picks for a legit defenseman.
