Any french Canadian that has been rumour for as long as Vinny, with his resume will have intense preasure in MTL.. there is no way around that. - Jay Uller
Not as much as he would have lets say 4 years ago?
Lower cap hit, lower expectations given his tenure in the league, I dont think it would be an issue.
But I seriously doubt Montreal wants to pay him 5mil or more and you know some GM will, that right there is why he wont be a Hab.
The only way Vinny is a Hab next season is if he wants to be and is willing to take less money to do it.
Otherwise he's off to detroit, dallas or some other team who needs a centre badly. |

I agree it's home town discount or bust. The problem with Hab land (like Leaf land) is the retarda usually talk loudest and will put pressure on Vinny to make French Canadians proud. After living in Ottawa qnd getting to know some french fans first hand (rational ones) and hearing what they say about the fan base, I'm pretty certain it will happen. (sometimes I want to punch babies when I use hockey buzz on my phone) ... In that regard I feel its easier to be a toronto born leaf than qebec born hab, culture gets brought in too much. |

I really want to. I think Vinny belongs in Montreal, just not hearing it - Eklund
If you hear something out of Montreal, It means it won't happen... (Unless it's a done deal and they just wait to announce it..) |

I think it's just force of habit. You hear Flyers and automatically assume the have 50 cents left to spend before hitting the cap.
I think Read has a good chance of being gone. Moving Mezsaros or Coburn frees up another 4-4.5. Lose 6 Mil Timonen hit and cap goes up next season and they could get Vinny and a goalie and still have room to pay Schenn, Giroux and Coutrier.
Not the route I'd like them too take but it's not outside the realm of possibility. - Hype97
Agree here...If they do go after Vinny L, they then look to move Read and Coburn for Halak in STL since it appears Emery is off the table..Tim Thomas is still an option, but he brings a lighting rod like Bryz... |

How was Emery the un-sung hero of the Hawks?? - Canuckleafer
When a team's #1 goalie goes down long term and the back-up takes over with a 17-1 record 922SV% 1.94 GAA. I'd call that an un-sung hero... Easily |

Wings are out!
Looks like Dallas will be giving Vinny 5 years $5 million
Clarkson wants (5-6 years) for more than $5 million per season
Horton - (5-6 years) for more than $6 million per season
When will people learn? |

No matter what, read is gone. whether its before season starts, or trade deadline, he is gone. Schenn and Coutrier are untouchable.. they would have been gone by now if they weren't. We can fit Vinny and a goalie, goalie such as Tim Thomas for maybe 3-4 million. As much as coburn sucked last year and his cap, he still would be a great to keep. mezsaros has got to go, but might not be easy to move bc he is injured half the time. I'm hoping Vinny realizes the stars will not make playoffs, last year they were talked about to go deep in playoffs and sucked. Flyers had an off season and will bounce back. Whether we get a new goalie or not, I have full trust/confidence in Steve Mason. Go Flyers! |

Don't mind Thomas being a Flyer at all. Even if he doesn't live up to his talent, he will be great guy to push Mason and teach him a few things |

Agreed, not interested in bringing in an OK overpaid guy to hand the net to based simply on what he is paid. Give Mason a chance to be the guy and see what you have, let's not repeat the Bob mistake.
I think Coburn is too comfortable here and needs to be moved but only if you have a decent D to replace him. Obviously Mezsaros is the prefered guy to jettison but given his injury history you probably won't find a taker. I personally believe that at his best Mez is better than Coburn. If he were healthy and all things equal I'd move Coburn for the right return. |

I wouldnt say he is going just for the money...he has always liked Philly and Dallas - Eklund
Vinny was actually traded to the flyers sometime before the 06 season. An upper level person in the lightning organization killed the deal.. His equipment bag had been packed by one of the equipment managers. Never found out who was going to Tampa. Info came from a former tbl employee years ago....maybe was told this on 07 |

Yeah Mez is actually a great puck mover and handler. He can really drive the net and has a great shot. He also can dangle a little bit. Love it when he whips out some nice moves and looks like a winger. Hopefully he will be cleared to play, that or hopefully he is very unhealthy and he is moved on the Injury reserve list with Pronger. that could save some money to sign Vinny |

The money for Vinny is there either way. If they want him they can do it. Cutting one of the D loose has more to do with the 3 RFA's next year and the need to replace Kimmo.
I think the idea of Vinny sounds nice and all, he's a big name with star power and everyone get's all excited.... That being said I'd rather give that money to Matt Read for the next 4 years (obviously not the full 5 per). Think Read means more to the team than the novelty of having a big name past his prime player. |

I wouldn't say Read means more honestly. im a big fan of him and the flyers, but he entered late and i think he is 27 now? This will be his third season, but he is gonna command too much money that he can get elsewhere and be great. He doesn't have the leadership Vinny has, nor a Cup, but Read does have great character, which he showed last year when he came back weeks early from his rib injury. We could get a nice trade for Read given his contract his so small |
