I find it odd that Chicago would go for a third goalie. The player they signed from Europe is suppose to be amazing. Which are they trading then? |

didnt the report earlier say Vinny only wanted to sign on the East coast?? Im no cartographer but Dallas seems a little bit of a stretch to be considered the East Coast... again im no geography expert... and i dont really want him in Philly so start up some other rumors... - theocean
Hahahaha...this.
Just read on twitter that David Poile said that Vinny wants to play on the east coast, whcih leaves: Leafs, Bruins, Habs, Flyers, Wings & Sens |

They will be in goid shape until Giroux, Couturier and Schenn have good years and need re-ups, then you will have to trade a potential star becauae you signed a guy with a 3-4 year window. Dumb. The Leafs don't have a better option. The flyers shouldn't. I would look at Horton before Vinny. - Jay Uller
no way - Horton is asking for a ton of money - I would keep away. |

Funny how everyone on here is a GM and we are a mess because we missed the playoffs 2 times in the past 18 years? Last time we missed we changed some things with Hmer as our GM and went to the conferencr finals. And all this being based on a lockout shortened season with no training camp, i mean the Red Wings almost missed the playoffs are they a mess? |

I don't know, you are paying Bryz to not play and Mason is the only goalie right now. Mason may end up ok, but I wouldn't count on it. You just signed Streit to a 4 year deal for too much. (35+ contract as well, seems they never learn)
Up against the cap right now, and Philly is seriously trying to get Vinny?
I don't see how you don't think they are a mess. It is like they are run by a kid with ADHD. - carcus
Don't disagree they shouldn't be in on Vinny but I'm trying to figure out why people on the boards keep using the "Right against the cap" argument.
Currently $4,181,478 in cap space without Pronger LTIR.
$9,122,906 in cap space with Pronger LTIR
able to go up to 10 % over the cap in offseason.
I don't think that much wiggle room is "Right up against the cap"

if Ek's sources dont hear it, then things must be happening.
I have a feeling with Vinny that some team thats desperate for a centre will pay him over 5, maybe even 6 for a longer term lets say 4 yrs +,and he'll take it.
His preferences wont even factor in I bet.

exactly.
i'd love to read "it's rumored said FA is going to sign w/ the team that offers the best deal".
would really make things easier. |

Seeing as no one can talk contract with him I highly doubt anyone has a real idea of what he will get or wants. |

Yeah, I guess they are not as close to the cap as I thought they still were. Still need another goalie, and I am assuming that is going to take up some of that wiggle room unless you go with an unproven backup behind Mason, which would not be smart IMO.
Still, if the Flyers sign Vinny, they are basically ensuring that they won't be able to keep at least one of their young guys in the near future.

I would love for this to be true! I can handle giving him 6 per for 4 years, I would be comfortable buying him out after 3 or moving him which wouldn't be overly difficult as long as he still has a pulse |

It was a typo. He was the guitar hero, had his tv on the bench and was playing all post-season. |

I think Vinny would be great in MTL he wont be the star he was and thats probably a good thing, and he wont have to be scrutinized for his contract anymore.
There would have to be trades to make room they would have too many centres, what they really need is a top winger someone like Vanek who can score 30-40 goals and is fairly consistent and not a total pushover.
Not saying they should get Vanek just using him as an example.

Any french Canadian that has been rumour for as long as Vinny, with his resume will have intense preasure in MTL.. there is no way around that. |

I think it's just force of habit. You hear Flyers and automatically assume the have 50 cents left to spend before hitting the cap.
I think Read has a good chance of being gone. Moving Mezsaros or Coburn frees up another 4-4.5. Lose 6 Mil Timonen hit and cap goes up next season and they could get Vinny and a goalie and still have room to pay Schenn, Giroux and Coutrier.
Not the route I'd like them too take but it's not outside the realm of possibility. |
