The dollar is a function of interest rates due to a strengthening US economy, though. Even through the recession, the cap rose.
- Leeman4Gilmour

I understand that, but you're missing a key fact, the cap rose moreso because Canadian teams drive league revenue, more Canadian revenue, at a dollar that is at par or greater than US currency means more money in the pot. A Canadian dollar that only gets you 90 cents US means less revenue in the coffers. Means the cap will have to go down. Dreger discussed it right before he broke the vinny deal.

A wekaer dollar isn't really a bad thing in and of itself, though. If you make more of those weaker dollars, you come out the same (or ahead).

The dollar may fall, but this might be off-set by rising incomes from increased export of manufactured goods and oil and gas. Maybe tourism, as well.

Dude, you're still looking at it as an economist and not a NHL guy. Edmonton's payroll maybe 60,000,000US for example.....before this year that was roughly 59,000,000 Canadian. Now, with the way the $ is going, that money might turn into 67,000,000 Canadian. SO for the 8 Canadian teams, that is a los of 64,000,000.....which will influence whether they raise or lower the cap. Follow?

If you gamble 100%. You end up being mike gillis
- walshyleafsfan

Yes ha ha ha ha ha, lol!!! I hope Lu tells him "fuk off, I want out of Van"
Gillis has proven that he's a loser. He's not capable of running an NHL team. He'll end up being like Milbury who will never get another GM after being fired. Gillis is Milbury without the stupid trades. They kinda look alike actually.

Costs don't control the cap, nor do profits.

Only revenue.

No, but it's nice to be able to say to all of your players that you intend on sticking with them and building something special.

We expect players to have loyalty to the team, and I think the players ought to have some expectation that the team will be loyal to them, as well.

I know people are not liking this 8 year proposal, but I do understand the logic from Bozak. He's essentially saying, "Hey, if you want me to take a home town discount, I will, but I want you to commit to me long term."

Bozak is rumored to be asking for 8 years at less than 5 per year, probably expecting to be counter offered something closer to 4.

Would we do 8 years at 4 million per? If we expect him to leave money on the table, maybe we do owe it to him to give him a long deal? By year 7 or 8, 4 million will be pretty inconsequential.

I love the Leafs, but they had a terrible draft day. What a confused franchise.

Wow I thought the Flyer fans were dillusional about Viinny. The Pens were playing there backup in the playoffs. That's sound's like a confused franchise to me.

The average Penguins fan has no idea how to build a winner besides "Draft Crosby... yada yada yada... win cup."

Not a fan of the guy we got I guess, fair enough. Not sure about the confused franchise part though. This has been the most direction I've seen from this franchise in years, we have young goalies, young d-men, would like to see a few more young forwards in our cupboards though, but at least we're seeing some positive results and not trading guys like Kadri away anymore.

At 21, who would you have gone with? And I don't follow the Q closely, I did in Couturiers year but not this year. What do you see Gauthier as?
