Bolland is also on the last year of his contract. I think Nonis gave Carlyle a guy that should work well in his system for the 3rd line, may be able to fill a void on the second line as the potential upside. - magmoo
the comparison to mac at 3.3 is a nice way to look at it too... good side of the trad there i think.

Bolland at 3.4 is money in the bank! We were just paying MacArthur 3.25
Think about it - t_leafs21
I just don't think it really solves our center situation. McClement could have easily handled 3rd line duties. Just seems like a waste of money when we have free agency coming up, 3.4 million is a good chunk of change. For 1.6 more, we could have gotten Vinny. |

Bolland would have cleared that puck in game 7 against Boston. Just saying. |

But they would prefer to pay someone who will actually play.
Komi cleared waivers last year.
I'm sorry, but he is done. He can't play anymore.

I understand that. I don't want him to play for the Leafs. But, he can play for the Isles, if they will take him. |

Difference is, we gave Mac that money projecting him to be on our 2nd line. |

The more I think about the Bolland trade, the more I don't like it. We just tied up 3.4 million on a 3rd liner right before free agency, greatly limiting our bidding for players services. - ThePresident
Honestly? Some people are just never happy...addressing a major area of concern leaves you "Not liking it" after contemplation? Give me a break.
Not a critique of anyone specific - but - the number of arm chair GM's that don't have a clue about how to manage a roster and only experience with trades comes from EA Sports is laughable. Turn down a major contributor like Bolland to a successful roster because you "may" be able to sign someone similar or slightly better as a UFA? Obviously never heard the expression "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush". Never mind that he comes at a ticket of $3.3 against the cap this year, and really is only due a modest raise over that based on production.
It was evident to all educated Leafs fans Grabovski was mis-used all of last season - with 3 days until UFA season opens we now have the option to explore trades, buyouts, and signings to improve the squad even further. AKA: options. Kadri-Grabo-Bolland-McClemment > Kadri-Bozak-Grabo-McClemment, and if they can move a salary or two, along with a player perhaps, there is plenty of opportunity over the next couple of days to upgrade.
The greatest difference right now is that Brian Burke is not spouting off about the major splash he is going to make then delivering nothing; Nonis igoing about his business, making smart moves, and really only he and the management staff are privy to the master plan for this week at this point. (maybe Dreger and MacKenzie )
See the forrest for the trees guys...it's the same damned if you do, damned if you don't bellyaching that gives Leafs fans a negaitve perception all over the place. The team is better off today than it was Sunday moring. PERIOD. |

Gill to Edmonton!
HAHAHAHA WEOOOOOO I love that the Leafs have options and we don't have 9 No-trade clauses like Vancouver - t_leafs21
c'mon now be fair.
the no-trade clauses are the least of Vancouver's problems.
I think its the 8 roster players they need to sign with what 3.5M$ cap space?
so when the season is not going well... i would expect to hear the Canuck fans cheering "thank you Gillis"...
nah... they'd never do that... they would somehow find a way to blame this on Burke or Nonis. |

true enough. I agree that the 3.4 coulda been used to be aggressive in getting a top 6 guy seeing as we have plenty of 3-9 type players as bolland is. |

Liles and Grabo only had one bad season each... Liles's contract isn't a mammoth one, in any case, and Grabo will probably bounce back. - Feeling Glucky?
Grabo is not being bought out this year.
I agree, he will bounce back once RC learns when to play him. |

Acquiring Bolland limits the Leafs ability to upgrade our #1 center position, and 2nd line RW. It's no longer a possibility to sign both Lecavalier and a guy like Clarkson. |

When was the last time you have seen Jeff Carter play hockey, is my question. They do not have similar styles at all. - bixll
I meant in the terms of the more goal scoring centerman offensive type. Jeff Carter is a more goal scoring centerman who was shifted to the wing. Grabo can be shifted to the wing. |

And when/if a move is made to upgrade at C (inclusive of moving out Grabo's $5.5 by trade or buy out) with a guy like Lecavalier or Stastny or whoever the nom du jour is, having two offensive centres, one shutdown/defensive guy (McClement) and one shutdown/offensive guy (Bolland) will look pretty darn good to go with Kadri and ???. This move was made with that kind of roster in mind...no doubt about it. |
