They're also guaranteed to immediately eat into LTIR, which probably means more bonus overages next year, difficulty with injury call-ups, and no bankable cap space for deadline additions... same story every year.

It's at the very least worth the phone call both ways. Read and BSchenn or Couts are immediately two of the top three forwards on the team and they keep their franchise D man and franchise goalie.

I was hoping those moves would be more in the vein of keeping the youth intact for years to come. It feels really unnecessary to me, and I don't like what it implies is coming.

not really because if you trade coburn for a pick to clear cap space and then trade couterier, you lose 2 players and gain 1 for the same hit against the cap. you still need to get another player to replace the other guy so you end up with even less capspace.

The reality is this team has what 6 or 7 centers now? If they can dangle one and get a really good young D-man than we are golden.
