I'm sure the Flyers would love to win 2011's Stanley Cup.

The sad part is, as mentioned in the Daily News this AM, they may not have much of a choice.

Unless they pull the trigger on a trade, the Flyers are going to probably end up with a veteran free agent goaltender who people probably won't like, whether it's Thomas, Theodore, or Dan Ellis. And the Flyers have always like Thomas' competitiveness.

But I wonder how Thomas would expect to be compensated and what impact would he have on Mason. Would Thomas be OK with sitting on the bench if Mason gets on a roll?

- johndewar

From what ive heard, Thomas has been practicing sitting for over a year now.

Would it be an under 35 contract? If so, i'm ok with it. If not, i'll pass.

I was a big fan of GTA3, but never got into any of the other ones.

They're alright, but the gameplay feels pretty antiquated at this point. GTA4 might be worth a spin, it's the only one I ever actually finished.

Agree on the 35 year deal. Although that probably spells the end of Gagne and Read (past this year). Also, not sure how the center situation shakes out, as Vinny automatically is the #2 guy.

Ouch more than I expected, but not out of the question for me.

I'd sign him to that.

- Flyersgod

I'd try 4 yrs @ $22 million (its an under 35 contract either way)

cap recapture is only for 8 yr contracts and longer, right?

Edit: Its 7 year or longer contracts

“For all existing SPCs with terms in excess of six (6) years (“long-term contracts”), a “Cap Advantage Recapture” provision will become applicable. Specifically, for years in which the Player under a long-term contract is no longer playing in the League … any “Cap Advantage” that may have been gained by a Club …will be “Recaptured,” and charged against the Club’s Upper Limit from year-to-year in equal amounts over the remaining term of the Player’s SPC.

I had a lot of fun with it until I got across the border, then I put it down and never picked it back up for some reason. One of many games I've left in limbo.

Cap recapture wouldn't apply to a 4 or 5 year deal for Vinny. Neither would the over 35 rule since he's 33.

Per the CBA reached in January 2013, teams receiving a “cap advantage” from long-term contracts (defined as seven years or more) will be penalized in the event the player retires or “defects” from the NHL before the contract expires. A team receives a “cap advantage” when the player’s actual salary exceeds his cap hit in a given year. Please note, contracts that fall under the "over-35" rule do not qualify for cap benefit recapture, the NHL has confirmed. In these cases, the team is charged with the player's full cap hit.

I'm still playing Skyrim. I can lose myself in that game for hours, long after I'm done all of the big questlines.

I'm very interested. We really kinda have a question mark at our 2nd line center and 2nd power play unit center I don't think schenn or couts are ready for that but hey I could be wrong

That's kinda my issue. Centers are:
1. Giroux
2. Schenn
3. Couturier
4. Laughton
5. Talbot

I know most people like Talbot at wing, so he can be removed. Some people have advocated moving Schenn the the 2nd line wing, so replace him with Vinny. But that means that one of Laughton/Couturier has to also move to wing, or Laughton plays the 4th line C role for Vinny's duration.

I just don't see how signing Thomas does anything to help Steve Mason, if the Flyers think Steve Mason is their goalie going forward.

Signing Thomas would be a hedge and I think Thomas'd make a giant pain in the ass out of himself.

I love Vinny's leadership and the fact he can win face-offs (which we need both). One commentator a while back - can't remember who - described vinny as the kind of captain young players follow because he leads by example, he's been there, it's like he's been through war. I think he'd be good for the flyers... If he's injured Coots or Schenn can play center.

The Flyers are taking care of Wellwood...I like it.

As for Thomas, guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

You're right about all of this, with respect to Vinny.

His price tag, though.....

You're going to have him in the mix for five years, though. I definitely see Schenn and Couts taking that step up in that span, and probably earlier on in it.
