Well No. If they traded Couturier they would still have Giroux, Schenn, and Laughton. Still no room for Horvat.
- youarewrong

Sure there is. We're back to the original point. Schenn can be moved to Wing. Bottom line is, if Horvat was the best BPA at the time of the pick. You take him. Regardless of position. Or you can trade one of them to fill another need. There is no such thing as having too many good players at a position.

How solid are they if they're getting non tendered?

Teams have been rifling through our garbage and finding treasure for years... Sharp, Seidenberg... it's about time we did a bit of dumpster-diving ourselves.

I would give a few of them a 2-way contract if possible. You never know... What is the name of the guy Florida traded but ended up being a decent player?

too lazy to look up right now.

i personally feel Schenn is better at the wing. Couts is a centerman. If we manage to keep Couts+Schenn, Couts will be 2nd line C, Schenn 2nd line W.

Teams do draft by need you know. That is how Barkov went 2nd, Jones dropped to 4th, and Vancouver selected Horvat. If you go completely by BPA Nichushkin would have been taken earlier. But Vancouver needs a center, and when Monohan, Lindholm, etc were off the board Horvat was the best Center left....

Did the teams drafting in the top 3 spots not have a need for a franchise defenseman? How can you make these assumptions? You would have to know who each team felt was the BPA at the time.

I'm surprised with all of these younger players from Edmonton and Nashville who arent tendered contracts that they weren't at least moved at the draft for a low-round pick.

I don't know if the Flyers will move Coburn but I wouldn't be surprised the Flyers are intending to put Meszaros on LTIR. Flyers have a lot of defensemen right now but I would be curious about Blum, if they do something about the logjam.

Hate to break it to you, but the Canucks actually have a greater need on wing than up the middle... yet they still passed on Nichushkin... that's BAP at work.

And the reason Jones dropped is because of the relatively volatile nature of d-prospects, not because the other teams drafted by need. Tampa arguably needs a top-pairing right-shot dman worse than the Flyers do, yet they took a smallish center when their system is already chock full of them.

Pierre and McKenzie were shocked that Florida passed on Jones... said they need a Franchise Dman in the worst way.

but it seems like Florida had Barkov as BPA

(yes i know they need centers too)
