He was taken in the top 15 in the draft? It would be interesting to read all the pre draft hype on him.

I was right about Horvat. Would have been a very bad pick for the Flyers.

If I remember correctly you said the Flyers should pick Horvat, and someone else... I forget who... And I replied that they were the worst picks I heard someone say the Flyers should get...

Not because he wasn't a good player, but because he is another 2-way center, just like we already have too much of on this team....

So good day sir. I SAID GOOD DAY!

Nope, you insisted he was a reach at 11. OB and and I corrected you, saying that he had a legitimate chance at being taken in that range by somebody, including the Flyers. And lo and behold, he was.

It's just extra funny because of your username.

He certainly wants to hit hard, to make players wary of him out there, to cough up the puck and think about it. That's his job and his forte. But to try and injure players. I don't think so.
- MJL

yeah. as much as i dislike him, i dont think he actually has the intention of ruining careers. giving himself a reputation around the league as a hard hitter to be feared, yes. but attempting to intentionally injure every shift, even i find a bit harsh

Gee, welcome to the club of 15,453,876 that also said he'd likely get around that...Pat yourself on the back for being one of the herd.

Most people were saying 8 plus because of Getzlaf and Perry and Malkin....

Cornet's the name that sticks out from the Edmonton group... he's actually a pretty decent goalscorer.

I said I would trade down if he was going to drop to get him, but I stay firm that he would have been a bad pick for the Flyers at 11. We are already log-jamed with Schenn Couts and Laughton... Add Horvat to that and... well.

And to MJL who thinks this guy will move to wing, I will say never... He is a true center. Best at faceoffs in the draft, and just an overall 2-way forwards... just not what the Flyers needed. He was what Vancouver needed, and they reached for him a bit...

Gagne was a true Center also. What about roster turnover? What if the Flyers traded Couturier at some point for a big time defenseman? Would they then have a need for a 2 way Center? That is what BPA is all about. You never know what the future will hold for a player or a team. So if that is why you're saying it would've been a bad pick for the Flyers. That lacks insight.

I always like Asham because he would fight anyone and wouldn't be a liability on the ice. He could also pot 5-8 goals.

I don't think there are many roles left for guys who strictly fight. Players need to learn to do other things. Most teams have fighters but they also do other things like create energy (rinaldo) or kill penalties like Laperiere used to do.

You are correct, the day of the goon has ended. Raise your glass to Tony Twist and George Laraque for their time has come.

Oilers didnt qualify Peckham, Plante, or Tuebert on d, Cornet up front. That’s a lot of jam gone from the back end at AHL level.

Plante and Teubert are both former top 15 picks.

- Jsaquella

And that's the risk of drafting dmen in the 1st round, they are harder to judge than forwards.

Well No. If they traded Couturier they would still have Giroux, Schenn, and Laughton. Still no room for Horvat.

He is better but some of these guys that have been released are capable d-men but on the smaller side. I gotta be honest I like Coburn but I just cant see any team giving up THAT much for him. Like hearing Coburn for Eberle? I think thats a steal for the Flyers just my opinion though. Its going to take a team that has a real need for the type of D-man Coburn is.
