Laughton is ready. There is possibly a greater chance of stunting his growth by sending him back to junior. He projects as a top notch 3rd line center with a smaller chance of 2nd line center. He is ripe for 4th line and PK duties. You tell the kid go out there and be a bulldog and don't get scored on against other bottom 6 lines. That's all he needs to worry about.

Exactly. Let him develop the same as Mike Richards. Just hope he lifts a Cup in Philly.

She could've said she'd miss his "Rosey cheeks," but that'd spawn 12 pages of "Did she mean his face?" talk.

No. Once he makes any money playing professional hockey, his amateur (collegiate) days are over.

Yeah, cause college sports aren't a money-making business.

you'd think it'd have to be roster right?

unless he needs dat 3rd straight Lindros trophy for Oshawa

- Crimsoninja

I just dont think the Flyers will start the time ticking on his contract if they are just going to use him as a 4th liner.

I disagree with that. I think the Flyers plan to do exactly that. They will have no problem with Laughton on the 4th line. Unless Laughton looks so horrible that there's no way they can keep him, which is very doubtful. He's pretty much a lock to make the team. If he's not traded.

I'd see Laughton playing the same role Couturier did his first year. In fact, I'd be mildly surprised if Laughton isn't on the roster to start the season.

He'd be a fool to leave college before he would be eligible to play in the AHL, at the very least.

I think he turned 20 in April.

- johndewar

Actually, because he's not a CHL player, he could play in the AHL now....almost 99% sure he's eligible. The rule is in place to help CHL teams, not NCAA ones

Again, even if he could play in the AHL, hes give up his collegiate amateur status.

But yes, you're right:
Another element in this convoluted equation is the NCAA, the United States' college organization (Canadian universities don't fall under this umbrella). College players can turn pro whenever they want; the caveat being as soon as they sign even a tryout agreement or play a single game for pay, they're immediately ineligible to play in the NCAA.

He's had 3 years in Juniors. He's an NHL player. He's ready.
- MJL

Like I said, Max Talbot put up similar numbers and still saw his junior career through and still saw some polishing in the AHL. Such players as Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux deemed themselves ready early and were not. They needed a little extra time, even at the junior and AHL level.

IIRC, his wife is "Debbie." Because every time he scored when he was a Flyer (during his first stint), my siblings would say (in a botched Ukrainian accent) "I scored for Debbie."
