Why sign Ference? Grossmann is too good to come off the bench. Might as well just keep MAB as your 7th and save the money for the trade deadline.

You need insurance because of Grossman's injury history

Gustafsson and Laughton are pretty much locks to make the team. Unless they're traded.
- MJL

Unless Couturier or Schenn are traded, I think Laughton might spend another year in the juniors. Not that I like it.

Is he still too young for the A?

Counting on Grossmann and Meszaros to be healthy is fools gold. They have to have a contingency plan.
- PLindbergh31

Rather go with the young players we have in Gus, Lauridsen, and Manning. They also have Gervais.

Don't need Ference.

You might as well just trade Grossmann then. 3.5M to sit on the bench isn't really justifiable.

Why not 4th line duty?

Gus definitely makes the top six, imo. I wouldn't saddle Lauridsen with full time duty, but I'd have him on the short list of call up guys.

Don't ever use him as a reason why the Flyers don't need a defenseman.

That's what I am saying. Those guys (minus Gus) are call-ups incase of injury.

The Flyers will use him if injury occurs. There are worse options out there. Not asking him to play every single night.

Outside of Ek predictions which i think we all take with a grain of salt...I cant see why Vinny would possibly want to come here...However i dont see dallas and detroit as fits either..should someone tell me why he would come here..and do we really think he will

I'm with you here. To be fair, though, I don't know that much about Ference.

If they sign Vinnie, I'd go with:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Vinnie-Read
Talbot-Couturier-Simmonds
McGinn or Rosehill-Laughton-Rinaldo

Gives you a good balance of size and speed on each line and a nice mix of offense and 2 way play on the 2nd and 3rd lines.

- BiggE

Which is fine. But that means that either one of Couturier or Laughton has to become a winger, or Laughton is on the 4th line for 5 years.

Because he's a professional hockey player, and the Flyers are a professional hockey team, and he wants money, and they have money. As for whether he fits, they can make him fit if they want him.

I like Gus. I think he will do a fine job. Lauridsen played ok last year, he might be a third pair dman. Manning is a career minor leaguer imo.

Gervais is a waste of oxygen.

Vinny is not an all star center anymore. I think many people on this board are remembering him from a long time ago.
- PhillySportsGuy

No doubt, but he is still a guy who can get you 25 goals and 60+ points while playing in all situations and providing leadership.

I have no problem w/Thomas, Halak, or Emery and I actually prefer them in that order. My concerns are w/the hack TMZ reporters that follow the team and how they will focus and fan the flames of Thomas's past comments.

Hope Homer says no to Clowe, Stalberg, and Iglina. I'd like Vinny on a cap friendly deal but I probably have a better chance of getting signed as a power forward myself.

- flyguy12

My order goes Halak, Thomas, Emery as far as preference. I'd be fine if Homer went after Stalberg, for a 3rd line role. Clowe will be over-paid, so unless we're doing some major remodeling up front, I agree with you on him and Iggy. Vinny, I'd go 5 @ 5 for.

He still getting paid by Tampa so I dont know how much money will play into it...I guess think that if at this stage of his career he would be better served joining a contender and taking a cap friendly deal

Im not really worried about 5 years out, players get hurt, traded etc... And if they are all still here in 5 years, maybe Couturier is playing LW on the top line with Giroux and Voracek.

Either way I have no problem with Couturier and Laughton in those spots for this season and next.

For the exception of last year, he scores at a pace of 30 goals per year, if he stays healthy. I think he will excell more on the Flyers.

So once the Flyers play Schenn at Wing, he can never be moved back to the Center position?
- MJL

Patrick Sharp seems to manage OK playing both positions. It would be cool if BSchenn could develop into a similar type of player to the one Hitchcock and Clarke gave away for a bag of magic beans.

If he's healthy. He's missed at least 20 games the last three seasons.
