Within 24 hours of him being bought out, he gets hired as the teams Assistant GM.

This I would believe. As long as "assistant GM" means playing basketball with Charles' grandson, it's all good. He's going to get $1.5M a year for a long time.....might as well do something.

Here's the thing the DPologists need to understand- no one hates HIM. We hate the fact that he was a SH*T goaltender, and he was allowed to BE a sh*t goaltender for FAR too long. That's not even remotely HIS fault, by the way. Allowing someone to play because he "wanted" to is symbolic of the myriad reasons this organization was cr*p for a LONG TIME. That's what his buyout represents- what is hopefully the end of THAT, and that is why we are happy. It's a simple concept....

Hey I play in that league. I'd welcome him, I wouldn't mind padding my stats a little.

There's no trapezoid- which means you'll be shooting at an empty net.

Don't be sorry, these are tears of joy!

I'll bet anyone here, whoever signs him (and he will be signed if he chooses to go one with his career) If he faces us... he wins

I would trade Frans for Hiller.

It's too bad that Anaheim doesn't have the NHL13 GM, with the commissioner override...

I'll also say this: I'd definitely rather have Hiller, but Tim Thomas for a year or two wouldn't kill us- the man CAN play the goal, for sure, and he's probably STILL better than the guy we had last year....and would be A LOT better when the money is on the table.

If he wasnt a year removed from playing then maybe. Who knows what kinda form his in. He's probably been in his bunker eating chick-fil-a and questioning his sexuality for a year

I haven't read through all of the comments, but this is a huge day for the islanders. RDP was the last symbol of the laughingstock days, the constant reminder that the circus was based out of uniondale. It was necessary to cut bait with RDP in order to truly move forward. Kudos to CW for finally letting common sense take over instead of blind loyalty.

I truly hope RDP latches on somewhere else and gets another shot. i never had the unabashed and unwarranted hate for the player that some on this board have. Maybe a new start with no pressure of an absurd contract and in a place thst doesn't have the negative atmosphere for him that LI does will be good for him. It isnt RDP the person that is the problem. It is all that he reminded us of and the bad contract that the team needs to move on from.

Let's say Snow WAS to go after Vanek and Miller. What, realistically, would it cost?

Hiller is a possibility since Snow has traded with Anaheim in the past. Would like to see him get Ryan also in the deal...other cheaper options are Ray Emery and Anton Khudobin...both solid wouldn't break the bank. I'm not big with Miller because the Sabres would want a lot for him...

So now with 10-15 million to spend ( streit, dp, thomas contracts not here to count against cap) who do u sign? Halak? Hornton are tops on my list...

Too much. Strome, '14 first rounder and Grabs at least. I wrote this on the Sabres blog too: Miller is a bad fit for the Isles. It makes no sense to trade away prospects and young players, the very type of players the Isles rely upon to build a winner, for a goaltender that is on the back nine of his career, is only signed for one more year and likely doesn't even want to play for the Islanders.

If the Isles trade for a goaltender, they need to trade for one that either a) is a place holder for Nilsson or Poulin or b) is young enough to grow with this team's core. Miller fits none of those criteria, because he is going to want a ridiculous extension to forego UFA status The guy isn't worth more $$ than JT makes and that's what he'll want.

Don't forget, the Isles still have to re-sign RFAs like Hamonic, Poulin, Bailey and Clutterbuck. That's going to eat away at that $10M or so to reach the salary floor because lets face it, the Isles aren't spending to the salary cap ceiling.

I'm so out of the loop on the UFA's, but I think I try to get Scuderi, because "D" is important. I like Horton, but don't think the Isles should offer him more than JT makes per year and if they don't, they won't get Horton. I actually like the idea of Briere as well, on a short-term deal.

I still think the Isles are going to make trades this week, trades for higher salaried guys on teams that need cap space (Halak falls into this category). I think the Isles will get better on the ice that way and I think they'll actually get better value that way, albeit at the cost of some assets.

if the isles fail to sign hornton, i still say trade for vanek.......offer grabner, a d prospect, and a pick. Bring in halak via trade (trade poulin and throw in one of the 8 dman prospect, and sign a dman who can shoot from the point on the pp.

Honest question, how did you guys feel about the Nino for Clutterbuck trade?

To me, Nino + 2nd rounder would've been a good deal to get Schneider out of Vancouver

Isles offered niño and their first round pick according to one report I saw and Canucks said no, they had a hard on for the kid they got at #9

unfortunately by keeping nino on the 4th line his first year to add his ELC as salary towards the cap, they shot themselves in the foot. Nino's value dropped, and the isles are now left with a top 5 pick who's value is now half of what it should have been

Jaroslav Halak makes the most sense to me if you want a good goalie without giving up a ton. He doesn't get along with Hitchcock and when he was the starter two years ago he played out of his mind. Probably get him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I really find it hard to see the isles pulling off a major deal involving Anaheim or buffalo. Ryan miller has just one year left on his deal. Sorta risky to give up a ton and potentially watch him walk next season.

Well I've had this discussion with someone else. Niño was god flipping awful especially in his own zone that he didn't deserve any ice time let alone 4th line. He never should of been here all season.

The fact the kings and Canucks didn't want him and the kings took a 3rd liner instead tells you all you need to know about his value. He's putrid in his own zone and lazy defensively. Lets see how that works for Minnesota

Agreed
He shouldn't have even been on the team or the 4th line that year, only to circumvent the salary cap floor......pathetic

Nino will do just fine playing with parise. Probably a little better than pandalfo and reasoner?
