It is a team sport.. Pitts got swept in 4 with an allstar roster... it would be so easy.. you guys forget it is a team sport and it takes time to develop a team..

The Soviet Union used to put together a team to take out the NHl's teams.. they played together like a team... that is why they could compete.

The Blackhawks would destroy team Canada as a team.

I don't think Pittsburgh is an all-star team. They are surprisingly thin on talent everywhere but center.

And the Soviets never really competed against NHLers. The Summit Series was the best example, but the thrown together team of Canadians (minus Bobby Orr) still beat the composed, tested team the Soviets iced.

Agreed

He probably wants to go to a top contender.

Iggy is an amazing hockey talent who had played with a poop team for 5 more years than he should have. I've watched his Olympic games and he IS a key contributor. Anyone that doubts that should rewatch the games. The best talent in the world IS in the Olympics. That's why the best NHLERS play there. No he won't sign with the Leafs because we are still a few years away from the cup. And iggy deserves to take one or two become he hangs up his hat. But to dismiss his leadership and skill implies that whoever says it does not know or watch hockey. Wakey wakey.

The highest level is not the NHL. The highest level is the Olympics. That's why only the best of the best get to play. Many players in the NHL don't get to play for their respective countries.
And Iggy has won twice playing with the best of the best. And being an important part of it, too. You can't deny he is a hell of a hockey player. And his downfall was staying with a not very good team most years in Calgary.

Re: Vinny - I'm not so sure you are correct.

Based upon absolutely no inside knowledge, I am going to make the wacky, wild prediction that Vinny signs a 1- or 2-year deal.

Which paves the way for him to return to Tampa.

So, why bring up the Soviets vs. NHL team comparison?

It would seem that the Soviets playing NHL teams are just examples of a team (the Soviets) vs. teams (actual NHL teams).

This proves nothing. If you want to show that well-composed, well-rounded teams can beat all-stars, I think you need to come up with some actual examples of that.
