We are three days away from the curtains closing on the Bozak era.

Nice ....and today (and tomorrows?) noon waiver wire should tell us a lot about compliance buyouts as well.

hope not
I am fine with the money but with the way the league is with salary caps and constant lockouts not to mention potential for injuries. I wouldn't want to sign anyone for more than 5 years. Excluding top guys like Crosby Towes Tavares etc

- Sammich

Wonder how many times Kessel needs to be at the top of the league before he's mentioned with these guys? I would gladly take him at 7.5~ish range for 5-8 years. 8 years puts him at the tail end of his prime, makes him a good trade at 30-31 with a year or two left on his contract as well.

well... I'm hoping Nonis does the following:

1) sign LeCavalier for the aforementioned two or more years at a reasonable amount
2) one 1) is done, buyout Grabo (not because I don't like him, but just for the space)
3) run with LeCavalier and Kadri as the top 2 centers
4) sign Bozak (should be able to get him at 4M for 3 years)
5) sign Clarkson (4 x 4.5 should do it)
6) move Liles any way possible - he's too expensive and too one dimensional as the 7th man
7) sign Franson for 3x2.75 - he shouldn't be getting more than Subban
8) sign Fraser for 1.2 one way - and stop screwing around with him (Nonis this is not necessarily a battle that you need to win - that kid sacraficed himself all season for the team...
9) sign Gunnarson for 2x2.5 - more would be a risk because of the back slide this past season

Where does Bolland figure into this? Do you think he was traded for to play on the 4th line???

Anybody else wondering what the eff Nonis is doing on the Komi file?

It seems to me the honourable thing to do would be to cut the guy loose at the earliest possible date - if for no other reason than it lets the guy start talking to other teams in the desperate hope of getting a new contract.

If it's a foregone conclusion, why wait?

Does Nonis have something up his sleeve?

With Ricky DiP and Vinny bought out, and Luongo now "wanted" again in Vancouver, there isn't really the potential to trade and buyout (and the league said they wouldn't allow it, anyways), so why the delay?

Do they need to keep those two buyouts an option for Liles and Grabbo?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Should be interesting to see who gets put on waivers today at noon - stay close to your Twitter feeds, kids.

New York isn't qualifying Sauer.

Did Phaneuf scramble his brains for good?

I think pretty much so...

he didn't get much playing time after that... even after the supposed recovery.

I'd rather roll Kadri and Grabbo at #1 and #2.

Bozak can go Bozak himself if he thinks he is worth $5 million a year.

I think it's safe to say that unless Grabo is bought out, and no other centers are brought in, Bozak's days in Toronto are done.

I like him, but he's pricing himself out of town, and a cushy situation.

agreed - I would like to know as well.

but even if Nonis is planning on Grabo and Liles as compliance buyouts (I hope he doesn't have to)... he can still conventionally buyout out Komisarek... or perhaps try what Vancouver is doing with Ballard.... on the unlikely chance that someone picks him up... then the Leafs would only be on teh hook for half the salary I believe?

I think the Rangers sent him to Connecticut did they not? Not sure if he actually got in the line-up there.

I think the only reason to wait is to keep some flexibility should other options present themselves.

If July 4th is the last day for buyouts then they'd have to be on waivers on July 3rd I think. Next two days should be good.

Also, this new "talk to UFA's on the 3rd and 4th" rule could make for some good leaks/rumblings before the 5th.

Grabbo is untradeable. His contract is simply too much.

I believe that since Komi has a NMC, there is no requirement to put him on waivers.

You can simply cut him a cheque and bid him adieu.

I think there's a problem with Kadri and Grabbo as 1 and 2. That problem is you have no fall-back... and both players are pretty one-dimensional.

You can critique Bozak all you want from a perspective that he wants too much money, but he's a way better all-round player than people give him credit for.. and quite frankly between Kadri and Grabbo... Leafs wouldn't be winning a lot of faceooffs. Puck possession would suffer.

I think you only go with Kadri in the 1 spot if you think Bolland can handle the #2 spot - which would seem an overreach to me.... 'cause I don't see Bolland capable of filling the 1 spot even on a short term basis with the Leafs other first liners ... he simply doesn't have the pace.

If Nonis hasn't come to the conclusion that he need to dump Grabbo, and go either with LeCavalier as the other 1/2 then its going to be a long year...

I think you are getting confused with the old re-entry waivers deal (which no longer exists).

But the Leafs would have the option of retaining up to half his salary and cap hit if another team wanted to trade for him.

Would another team want to take a chance on that? Maybe?

Pay him $1.75 million for one year of service.

I just don't see it. I just don't think he can play in the NHL anymore - he's simply too slow for the speed game these days.

I hope I'm wrong.

If not, buh-bye.
