Would still have an impact, no? I don't know too much about the player, never seen him play, like I said to you, going by stats it is eerily similar to Joel Champagne. - LeafMan

Putting contract numbers aside, who should Nonis pursue more, Horton or Clarkson? |

If Horton hadn't had 3 concussions or something in the past 2 years I'd say him. |

Saw some talk on Gauthier so figured I'd post this. Someone made a highlight video of him from the U18 tournament. It really makes him out to be a beast defensively. |

hope not
I am fine with the money but with the way the league is with salary caps and constant lockouts not to mention potential for injuries. I wouldn't want to sign anyone for more than 5 years. Excluding top guys like Crosby Towes Tavares etc |

Needs a lot of work on his skating ability. Very slow. |

Not quite...
Champagne's rookie year saw him get only 22 points in 62 games, and his draft year saw him get 40 points in 70
Gauthier's rookie/draft year saw him put up 60 in 62.
As previously stated, he had a broken jaw early in the year, and couldn't take anything other than fluids for a week- that probably slowed him down a bit offensively.
And while Champagne was similarly touted as a very good shut-down player, the major drawbacks on him were his lack of physical effort, poor offensive instincts, and poor skating. Scouts are saying pretty much the opposite of all that for Gauthier.
Hopefully Gauthier doesn't follow Champagne's headcase antics, asking for a max rookie deal, when even Schenn and Kadri didn't get one. |

Long stride, makes him look slower. Moves very well, given he's 6'5 |

I agree, he brings more skill and clutch play..but injury history/baggage definitely increases the risk. Also, wonder if he would even consider the Leafs now that Bolland is on the team, and the fact he would have play against his old team a bunch. |

Nice video.. obviously he's gonna look good in a highlight reel, but looks like his defensive awareness is right up there.
Looks like he could use a little work in the finishing department. But nice potential forsure. Also looking at the numbers it appears he shows up when it counts |

I can't say I did... he's got awful, awful finish. I don't know how he got 22 goals in the Q |

It is not his size, it is the lack of speed with which he moving forward that makes him look slow. And at 18, he should be quicker for sure.. |

I imagine he shot the puck at the net once in a while and it went in 22 times. |

My bet, he was standing in front of the net and someone hit him with the puck. |
