As someone who hasn't watched many Leafs games, whats the deal with McArthure? Good, Bad, Decent?. Scanning your board, he doesn't seem to be any kind of priority for the fans...

solid middle of the lineup guy

plays a safe game.. wont blow you out of the water with skill but isnt a liability out there either.

judging a player from NJ based on their offensive output is like judging a car's speed after racing it with a trunk full of bricks

Hasn't seem to hurt other forwards in the past.

just youtube videos for me...

but one thing I found particularly interesting.. he had the broken jaw and missed a number of games. the broken jaw would no doubt would have affected his eating and at that size and youth, he no doubt would be affected from an energy perspective.... so good on him for i) more or less playing consistently through that ii) not being a total zero offensively

his results in the u18 were pretty impressive, apparently he was voted/selected as best forward for the Canadians.

might be a gem.

- BorjeFan4Ever

He wasn't consistent at all. He had something like 6 points in the final 35 games of the year.

He's got a bit of a knack for killing beautiful plays... but he's got a good work ethic, and is decent depth.

Any idea why Gauthier only has 1 Q year under the belt?

I seem to remember a couple of decent games against the Pens. It looks like we'll be scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill out the lineup... Appreciate it!

Good compliment player, problem I have with him is he stopped play making because he thinks he will get paid more as a shooter. his whole line and his career has suffered from it. Great player, but he needs to be reminded what made him successful IMO.

His first season with the Leafs, where the Kuli/Grabo/MacA line was on fire, he showed decent hands/moves in tight and good ability to cycle/dish the puck.
However, as has been discussed to death, none of those 3 guys have been able to repeat what they did that season...

My take on him has always been that when he is on his game, he is a good 2nd line winger. It's a question of consistency, or lack there of.

Is he a first liner there? May have been put into a defensive role by his coach.

I rather have Clarkson for 4 years @4 to 5mil than Iginla who looked absolutely lost out there with the Pens, singed for two years, he doesn't fit the age group, you want some stability in the lineup going forward not patch work.

He was the first line centre until the last 26 games when Rimouski traded for Lavoie.

agreed.. people tend to forget where salaries sit nowadays

players like clarkson hit UFA and are worth 5million.. depending on the market at the time.

the guys who give you 30+ goals every year and 60-80 points are 7million plus players

kessel for example.. he will get 7+ easy come UFA time

It's not just that Iginla doesn't fit in with our forward group... it's that he was part of the laissez-faire attitude in Calgary that couldn't handle a player who wanted others to be accountable.

Don't think he and Phaneuf would clash again?

He also had a broken jaw blocking a shot I think, that had some impact on his numbers.

I always felt he was the 3rd wheel kinda guy. That year, Kulemin and Grabo were on fire, and he was along for the ride. This year, whenever Kadri and his other winger clicked, MacArthur put up numbers.

If you've got 2/3rd of a good 2nd line, or want to spread scoring around your line a bit more, he'd be a decent 2nd line winger.

Would still have an impact, no? I don't know too much about the player, never seen him play, like I said to you, going by stats it is eerily similar to Joel Champagne.
