Why? He hasn't even played a NHL game yet. I'm not trying to put down the idea but am wondering what is it about him that is interesting?
- coffee junkie

He has top pairing potential
But that's just the thing about it. At this point it's just potential We'd be giving up a very solid top 4 dman for a player that's never played in the NHL before. For a player with his potential though, I think I'd like to do that.

yeah. they got a second (50th) from sj, and then moved that and another pick to columbus for a higher second to take jarry. i wont lie and claim to be too familiar with him, but some had him as the 2nd or 3rd goalie prospect in the draft. cant hurt i guess.

i wouldnt be surprised to see kennedy do well out there either. a change of scenery may give him his old spark back, as he kind of got lost in the shuffle of the pens lines. he has that high energy motor that san jose seems to be transitioning to from the old guard of marleau and thornton to couture and pavelski. wish him the best of luck

Definitely can't hurt. Every pick is a roll of the dice, but that's especially true for goalies.

Pitt and Bylsma kinda lost faith in TK, and that has an impact on a player. I lived out in SJ when the team first came into existance so I have a soft spot for them, so I certainly hope for the best for all parties. At the very least it's a new start, and sometimes that exactly what we all need.

high-end (potentially) offensive defenseman prospect. i'm sure they have other interesting assets that i'm too lazy to look up. my point is just that i think homer should pick what he wants (within reason) and hold out for that. don't sell coburn at a discount, no need for that

something like smid + a mid-level guy isn't interesting to me at all. seems pointless

when i was younger, before i really was into sports in general, i thought the team was cool merely because they were Sharks haha so ive always kind of had a soft spot for them as well as a western conference team to pull for.

although i must say, when you say that you wish the best for all parties, that implies the penguins too! admit it, i may be coaxing some good will out of you haha if this kid wins a vezina, it will surely be due to this conversation

Simon Gagne and the Philadelphia Flyers are talking about a new contract."We've had a couple of conversations with his agent, and we will continue to talk," GM Paul Holmgren said Monday. "We have interest in bringing him back, but limited cap space." Gagne has already said he is open to taking less money to stay n Philadelphia. He can become an unrestricted free agent on Friday if something isn't worked out with the Flyers.

Speaking of the Cap. I crunched the numbers on the Flyers off season Cap picture. With the buyouts, and assuming that Manning, Wellwood, and Luridsen received 2 way Q offers, and Gustafsson receiving a 1 way Q offer. Here it is

One way players $51,528,929
Two way players $2,918,965
Gus Q offer $850,500
Bartulis buyout $100,000
Bonus overage $182,927

Total: $55,581,321

Off Season Cap: $70,343,000
minus above gives the Flyers $14,761,679 of Off Season Cap space to play with. Please don't confuse this with Cap space for the Season. It will be less.

Although they can gain more by placing Pronger on LTIR once the Season starts. And by trading a defenseman such as Meszaros. So the Flyers have the money to sign a player such as Lecavalier.

I want no part of thomas. He and this media together would be a poop show, even worse than Bryz and Media.

Rather have Nabakov.

- Yosimar89

Tim Thomas wins. Vezina's and Cups. Nabokov wins worst playoff goaltender in the league. Stop with the Nabby talk. We thought Bryz gave up soft goals?? Just wait with Nabokov. I'm ok with Tim Thomas on a 2 year deal.

Where does it say that in the Collective Bargaining Agreement? I'm looking at it right now -- page 288, Article 50.9 (i)(ii) -- and I don't see anything in the compliance buy out section that says anything specifying that only deals signed under the previous CBA are eligible for compliance buyouts.

Not doubting you. I just can't find the rule.

- bmeltzer

Read Exhibit 16 of the CBA Bill. Transition rules. There is a deadline for when deals were signed to be eligible for a CBO.
