Listening to Gillis on Team1040, he said if Ballard clears they'll recall him and put him on unconditional waivers to buy him out. Why tell everyone? Just to it....idiot!
- LeftCoaster

Given the D market value he may be a bargain. See Gonchar/Allen/Souray

If you are as good as doughty dive all you want. I dont care that kesler does. I have an issue with the other guys who suck that dive.
- Bluechip23

To be honest I think the total opposite. Talented players are good enough to make an impact without that crap. Fringe players try to get ahead anyway they can

Semyon Varlamov got the 11th overall selection last year. Cs should have gotten more. Im happy with what we got but the reality is who is better Varla or CS. I dont even think we need to debate that.
- Bluechip23

Nope.

Varlamov was traded for a 1st round pick that ended up being the 11th overall.

Read an interview with the AVs GM at the time (think it was Sherman) where he said that with the addition of Varlamov he assumed the pick would be much later than it ended up being.

The NFL is a different animal. They have that point system that the live and die by. The only exception is when you have to pay more like they did for RG3 and Luck. Other than that it pretty much goes according to the draft pick point system. I love the NFL.

Tim Thomas is available, does it count against the cap if you pay him in ammunition?

Dont get my wrong i am very big on Bo. But to actually think that both Bo and Hunter will be NHL top 6 players is a stretch. One will bust and one will be good. MG hasnt proven that he is this draft savant.

I don't think the Canucks should really care that Core Schneider going to EDM might make them a "dynasty" in a couple of years. The Canucks basically have this year and next to challenge for a cup before going full rebuild. Horvat at #9 and Shinkaruk at #24 will help that rebuild along nicely. But Horvat at #7, Shinkaruk at #24, a 2nd rounder and an Oilers prospect would have been better.

Devils would of taken shinkaruk at 9

As I've said in the past numerous times I hate their drafting. He always (frank)s up. Not as bad as when no nuts was here but it isn't good. I had Shinkaruk at #6 and Horvat at #10. I am beaming. 2 top 10,s(IMO) in this draft. As somebody who lives in Ontario I see a ton of BoHo. Think P Bergeron with a nasty mean streak. And HS, think a more explosive and driven Kadri.
- Bieksa#3

If we ignore the goalie fiasco this was and epic draft. Time will tell but I am extremely positive right now.

Listen if we could bet money Id bet that both guys dont become top 6 fwds consistently in the NHL. I am just playing the odds of 1st round picks over the last 10 years in the NHL. Even the 2003 draft had 14 outright busts and a few role players. Only 10 guys which is a monster haul become STUDS. So to think that we drafted 2 studs is dreaming.

I think if they liked him that much they would have tried to trade back into the first round to snag him when he went past 20.

I like the players Gillis drafted, I think they may take 1-2 years to be ready if not 2-3 but adding quality prospects is a GOOD thing the way he's traded away youth and draft picks. The only potential issue is if one of those two or even both are good enough to start next season, will the Canucks have enough money to keep them up with the big club once they're signed? Right now if you assume lack is backing up luongo that leaves 3 mil, if they buy out Ballard that's 7. 1 mil per player isn't going to fill the roster with much depth at all. They're gonna need to roll more than 2 lines.

Whoever went into gaga land earlier in these comments and said the Canucks now have one of the deepest prospect pools made me howl.

I am confused how he didn't make top 10. Also how did Nurse make top ten great kid but not in my top 10.

We have to be positive otherwise we have nothing. I think we had a good draft as well. I hope we can get 2 NHL guys out of this draft which is an amazing draft class if you go and look back at the history of NHL draft classes.

Shink dropped a lot after the combine. Which is stupid. The combine is the worst way to move guys up and down the draft board. Every year there are guys that are combine studs that suck and guys that are crap at the combine that play great.

Yes, that's good. I'm starting to fall in love with our high end prospects but there in absolutely no depth

There's some considerable middle ground between "stud" and "bust".
