Sure they can. And Lu will. The problem I see is that this entire drama is viewed under a microscope. Even if Lu puts the past behind him and manages to plays well this year it could be a full season or more before the media relents on this storyline. I don't like it for Lu's sake nor his team mates. OH! And now Torts has to answer questions about this??? (LOL) - nathanjf
Yes, Torts in the middle of all this should be very interesting (re: explosive!)
Anyone want dibs on how long it takes him to lose it on a reporter? |

I thought the deal was pretty bad, no matter how you look at it. Not a knock on the guy you got, but i thought Schneider was more in the Letang area... - Deadmau55
Letang? Schneider is not considered a top end elite goalie, small sample size on a good team, he got zero Vezina votes. Bo Horvat is a cant miss forward prospect. Letang is in the running for the Norris every year. |

It's not as bad as people think. I think Luongo will be OK now that he is the man again. The problem now is the end of his contract in the dead years. But, the Canucks can buy him out near the end and take the smaller cap hit spread out over double the amount of years instead of the cap recapture penalty.
Honestly, they saved themselves a buyout and can now fix their D. Ballard will be bought out and next summer they can see if they need to use the other one. I'd keep Booth and next summer they can either buy him out or Garrison if he continues to struggle. |

Yes, I have. I live in the lower mainland.
Let's not forget though that he was essentially told he would be moved. As a matter of fact, he asked to be moved. Now, he is still there and the entire process has been a sham. I am not suggesting that Bobby-Lu is not professional and he will likely man-up but to suggest that he will be unaffected going forward might be wishful thinking. |

I am from london where horvat played junior and ive had the privilege of watching this player grow into a legit nhler.like ian said soon you will be saying cory who.this guy is a workhorse at both ends of the ice and has a motor that just wont quit.smart skilled and tough you cant want much more from a player.yes cory is a good goalie, but are you fans forgetting how good luongo is, still top5 goalies in the league imo.this is not a backwards move for the nucks more of a leap forward to get the secondary scoring that you dont have and some extra toughness bo will drop em too and can hold his own.gl bo, you will be missed in a knights jersey. - smackdaddy Very well said. It's hard to appreciate the quality of player and person he is. I expect him to captain the knights next year, if he returns, and in the future he will captain the Canucks.
As far as i'm concerned, i think Bo is ready to make the step as much as anybody, but another year in London will be best for him.. let him come in for 2014-2015, after he wins the memorial cup. I don't think it's a stretch to consider him a future Selke worthy player. |

There are very few "cant miss" prospects, and they are usually in the top 3. |

Ian Esplen: Thoughts on the Schneider deal
it's over - IanEsplen
No matter how anyone spins this, Gillis embarrassed your franchise and continues to do so as well. The way he handled this, only to turn and trade CS is a total joke. He basically starts the train to run Lu out of town, then has to have his owner crawl back to Luongo (who probably doesnt even want to be there). Then, to get so little for a proven NHL starter who has a 'franchise goalie' written all over him. I dont care if EDM is offering more, you have to take the best deal given how poorly you handled this. I think when its all said and done, the 'Gillis' era will be one that Canuck fans will look back on in shame.

Actually all he did was disclose too much to the media. He should've just kept his mouth shut. He said it himself, they didn't see Schneider becoming this good and he had a feeling all along they'd have to trade him. Why do you think they signed Lu for 12 years? |

Good return for Schneider. Fair deal for both sides. Jersey gets a replacement for Brodeur. Vancouver gets Horvat who looks like he will be an amazing 2 way player. A younger version of Kesler without the diving. I think he will be the captain of the Canucks down the road. Loungo is apparently upset but he's a professional and won't breach his contract as some have said. Probably gonna be the starter for Canada at Sochi. Still wish you guys had bought him out so we could sign him for a shorter term. |

Any GM could of taken over and made the playoffs for 5 years. Wasn't really his team that made the playoffs! |

I don't think anyone is suggesting he will breach his contract but if he really doesn't want to be there then why would they keep him. Luongo could make this difficult for the Canucks/Gillis if he wanted to. - MadManPaddy
He would hit the waiver wire pretty quick. So starter in the NHL or AHL or maybe a team does pick him up off waivers. No e will be a pro as he has been through this hole debacle. |
