Leafs take the second best team to 7 games. Vancouver gets swept.

Toronto makes upgrades, Vancouver loses their best goalie, and is stuck with a guy that doesn't want to be there.

yea- you got reasons to be cocky

I totally agree. Pitt needs a goalie van needs a right shot defenseman. Only issue is cap. And thats why I think this is the only reason this deal got done.

Nucks need cap space and they got it.

Just makes me wonder if cory got traded to be a back-up again. Broduer doesnt look like hes slowing down.

I would take edler over letang because with just more improvement, he could be better than letang with an all around game.
Plus Edler is on a good contract.

Bob Mac said somebody had him at #4. That's pretty high praise given how much more skill was in this draft compared to the last few. Lebrun said a few GMs where actually praising Gillis(believe it or not) said Schneider is a good goalie but that Horvath is "gonna be a hell of a player" also said he is far and away the safest pick in the draft

Most of the "experts" say he is a ROR clone. MacT was high on Horvat.

Vancouver got 2 really good prospects. 2 guys that are now their 2 best prospects. But with a team like Vancouver you are still in win now mode. This will not make Vancouver better for a couple years. I think the biggest disappointment for Van fans is if they were going to trade Schneider they expected a haul that would help now AND in the future.

I can't disagree. Maybe that wasn't available. We know the edm offer was the 7th pick. After that who knows. Even if there was a roster player involved it wouldn't have help if he made any kind of money. Sounds like Horvath was their guy at 7 or 9. My favorite part of the draft was Hunter S. Was not happy the canucks passed on him at 9. I had Hunter at 6 and Horvath at 10, so I'd be lying if i told you I'm not super pumped. Hell I think we got a late 2nd rounder in the 4th round. As a guy who has pretty vocal about how poopty I think our drafting has been, I'm thrilled. 2 get 2 of my top 10 players in a draft that is probably the best in a decade

Either them or Toronto. After having no nuts here for that long, I can tell you he is an awful Drafter. Patrick White

Shinkaruk dropped on a lot of lists after the combine. Down to the 25 area on a lot of lists. Small, not great skating and one dimensional. Also heard of possible attitude issues.

Now we all know we have heard similar things about other guys that have slid that have gone on to great careers. Time will tell.

BSteinley is a tool that said Edmonton's D is better than Boston's and if we offer sheet Rask we would be instantly a contender.

He was laughed off the board and has since never returned.

Edit: he also has claimed to have inside sources and is close friend with one NHL GM. And he says he is a blogger for both the Oilers and Canucks.

Skating? Really? I think he's a great skater. He is small. I don't think his offensive upside is far from Droulins.
Edit: just checked central scouting. He is a "dynamic skater"

I expected a trade involving Edler to help "now", very happy with the Schneider deal all things considered. More disappointed Edler didn't move for sure!

The value of the return was more or less fair, my issue if I was a Canucks fan though, is that I would've wanted a more proven commodity in return considering the time and effort Vancouver invested into developing Schneider.

Not to mention now being stuck with Luongo. He'll be good for a little longer but he will slow down significantly soon. That's just the effect of age on reflexes....nothing anybody can do about it.

- Tweek

If I were luongo I'd tell the Canucks to fack off and with good reason. Gillis is really making quite a name for himself.

maybe. The east is pretty weak. In a full season I can't see NYI, CAR, TB, FLA, BUF, or even PHI making it with their goaltending.
- TheNugeIsHuge

What goaltending? We don't even have a goaltender yet. Make that observation after free agency is over.

He's an excellent skater, as per almost every report I've read on him. That and his exceptional drive is what makes up for his lack of size.

Scouting report

In his 3rd WHL season, Shinkaruk took on the leadership reigns in Medicine Hat as the team's captain, but failed to outproduce his exceptional 2011-12 season on the scoresheet. The diminutive forward can be tough to get a read on at times, but we strongly believe there is an NHL player here. While Shinkaruk is often physically outmatched even at the WHL level, his innate hockey sense makes him a unique breed of goal scorer that we feel will translate into production at the NHL level.

The 5-foot-10 centre has explosive skating and separation ability which is the driving factor behind a lot of his offense. To have success at the next level he will need to show improved creativity as he adjusts to professional defenseman, as well as improving his playmaking game and knowing when to utilize his teammates.

After being told I was being traded for 2 seasons and some kid was taking my place after I signed a contract for what he did you can bet your a$$ I would be playing with a chip on my shoulder and you guys are fooling yourselves if you think otherwise. Luongo has gotten rattled for much less. Not even trying to stir the pot it's just common sense.

Meh, was hoping for a bit more. But if nobody offered it. If you look back Lefty and I have been calling this for weeks. We still have great goaltending and a blue chip prospect. Would I rather have Schneider and Horvat? Yep. Would I rather have Schneider and no Lu or Horvat, nope
