U freaked out just a little bit hear didn't you Clouts? Nurse won't be bad and we didn't have to brutaly over pay for an unproven goalie like Shnieder. Or a Unproven Dive like Nino.
It would of been nice to add Clutterbuck, but we did do as bad as you seem to think, Did you drink a keg and watch the draft again or what?

4 teams in the end on Schneider, including Calgary, Edmonton and NJ. Asking price was higher for Flames and Oilers (division)

Ryan Rishaug ‏@TSNRyanRishaug 8h

Told asking price for Schneider to Oilers was the 7, a 2nd and a good young player. High price to trade within division, Oil passed.

If they didn't get greedy, something tells me they'd get more than a 9th.

- FLflames34

It is not just that they let schneider go for only the 9th pick it is what they did with that pick. Horvat will be a good third line center for them in a year or two. However their were many better picks left. They could have traded down with him or made a deal out of the top 10 and still got Horvat. I have to think they could have got something from Philly for example that was more than just a pick and Horvat would have still been there.

Nurse is a good pick and should pan out. I'd think he's at the top of d prospects with klefbom. Nothing to frown on about nurse. However the rest of what cloudier said I couldn't agree more. You people don't realize he like most of us are long time oilers fans and we are just tired of seeing the same old BS. Other than nurse oilers will be lucky to have any other players they drafted today play for them. You can't get mad at clouts for being honest. Are there not that many passionate oilers fans left? Just watch the oilers management fiasco continues the team will be banging there heads the next few years until they can make good free agent signings, draft well, take a chance make a trade. You see every other team do something to better their team. I almost think stu and co. Need to be let go and find better scouts. Even if they kept 37 and took Eric Comrie or Harry or what the kings took in zychov what's his face? Yeah. Better to have a 37 with higher probability to play for oilers then 100 later players where you get ZERO players that will ever play for AHL even. Lol. Wow. Come on are there any oilers fans that want to see results here? Other than the oilers 1st round selection every year. 10-15 year rebuild. Lol. Lets see if they can turn it around
At free agency. Maybe buyout horcoff and hemsky. Then sign Horton and bozak. Gotta be better than having hemsky and horcoff at least.

Lol...so you agree with me. For all any of us know, NJ's 9th pick was the best offer they got.

Clouts is right...he should have run this by Luongo during the week when it got leaked that they were accepting offers on Schneider. This has a real chance of getting ugly. But the trade he made for Schneider is proof that when you have no leverage, you get fleeced in trades.

- djamon

Luongo's only tweet is cryptic. And the note that the owner met him in Florida seconds before the announcement to tell him says they are a terribly ran franchise and ran worse than even Calgary or Philly.
Should have traded Lu to TO last yr. Now, They basically traded Schneider (future 1G) and Hodgson (future 1C) for Kassian (um, not convinced he is future anything) and Bo (2-3C)

Jeez Clouts..that blog was terrible...

The Nurse pick was probably a good one. Nobody knows if he's going to be Chris Pronger or Jeff Woywitka so I'll reserve judgement and hope for the best.We are all hopeful that a couple of Klefbom,Marincin,Gernat and Musil can eventually play in the NHL and in some cases make an impact. But as of now, they are still unproven prospects. Not one of them is a garauntee for more than a cup of coffee.

Who do we have that might interest the Wild more than Nino? MPS? I wouldn't do that deal from an Oilers perspective, and we don't have anyone to deal.

Who do we have more inticing to the NYI than Clutterbuck? A bunch of guys who are going to be UFA in about 15 minutes? MPS? I wouldnt do that deal either. Are they even remotely interested in Hemsky? Horc? Schultz? Can hardly blame Mac T for that one.
At the time of the trade, we didn't have the assets Toronto was looking for so maybe there wasn't a deal that could be done?

McBain?Sekera? Not slamming the players, but they would be pretty low impact on the Oilers D. I dont know that he is much of an upgrade over Petry,Schultz or Smid, anyway.

Hemsky and Horc may very well play for the Oil next year. Hemsky probably will get some mild interest and be traded. Horcoff? Maybe he has to stay.He sure as sh!t wont be bought out.

Seriously, you of all people, with your never ending list of untouchables....who the hell do you expect Mac T to trade to bring in an asset?

This blog was 100% sour grapes

Cloutier, you should have taken another day before writing your blog. It's like you had a temper tantrum and broke your favorite toy and tomorrow you'll wish you didn't.
- JLO961

Bingo. Panic button smashed in!

Cloutier, you make it sound like you were a fly on the wall and heard the conversations between GM's. But, you weren't so don't assume MacT poop the bed, things change quickly and then of course there are always unforeseen variables.

So, let them work with what they have, Criticize them after a year or two if things remain dim. Can't throw MacT under the bus...the bus hasn't even been put in gear for crying out loud.

This is vaudeville. If I was writing the same passive, pointless, point-of-fact stuff real reporters try to do, no one would read it.

I laugh my ass off at people who can't figure out what I'm trying to do here. Entertain and provoke. If you want sports news, I can name about 10 different places other than my blog.

- Maxbone

I'm not complaining. In fact, apparently the turnover of users here is so fast that some people don't remember your negative nancy blogs.

Intriguing to note that after all the to-do about revamping the centre depth, the oilers did draft four big centres - Roy, Yakimov, Platzer and Chase. From what I gather Roy is toolsy, Yakimov's a project with HUGE size and hands, Platzer's a mucker and Chase is a mega-pest. Add in Pitlick, Lander, Ewanyk and House and centre is now probably our 2nd best prospect depth.

Don't misinterpret things; the Canucks are the most hated team because of what they say, how they act, what the do OFF THE ICE. ON the ice....they don't scare anyone. THey are hated because of the cocky fans and the Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa BS after the whistles and off the ice. Anyway, it's over. If I were Luongo I'd still stay away from that sinking ship.
- JLO961

yes, pure hate, I love it. 5 coaches in 6 years would be considered bush league by some. Perception is sometimes different then reality. Vigneault coached 7 years, Canucks on average have been a pretty stable team. Luongo is rich, the Canucks made him rich. He played like sh^t, lost his job and no one wants him, NO ONE. Luongo will play if he's good enough, if he's terrible this year he will be bought out in next years window like Bryzgalov. I just love how emotional you guys get, its so personal to you types, its awesome, the distain and hate, an honor to best you on the day, truly.

no one wants to come here, this is why we have to draft and overpayments isn't the answer. People have to realize its going to be 2 or 3 years before we can get better if no one wants to come here.

So we'll have to watch Zykov and Carrier. We traded out of each of their picks. Do they become footnotes? Or Zach Parises?

On the other hand, this might be the largest crop of humans the Oil have ever drafted.

As I have said for about 2yrs now...

When Horcoff has no "C" on his sweater, this team will be fine. Even if he stays, it's okay, but Shawn Horcoff is NOT a leader. He is a hard worker, a great guy, but not at all what a young team needs for a captain.

I think this one relatively subtle change will change the whole team for the better. You just can't have your team captain be one of your worst players, there has to be a bit of fear, a bit of "awe" and one helluva lot of respect. That doesn't happen when Horcs can't cradle an NHL level tape to tape lazer from those kids. They don't respect him enough.

Those kids need the reincarnation of Messier...someone like that.

WHen Horcoff is not the captain, the team will be better.

EVERYONE wants Luongo...they just don't want his contract. He is one of the best at his craft and it's YOUR team that threw him under the bus. Even Kesler, his frickin teammate talked trash about him at the Olympics.

I'm an Oiler fan, I hate the Flames. The Canucks have never mattered.

Yup for all the smoke there was absolutely no fire in this draft. Trading down with both 2nd round picks is ridiculous. I think MacT needs a quick refresher that the odds of finding an NHL player are better earlier in the draft. They certainly drafted a quantity of players however the quality is certainly lacking.

Its tough to continuously see players traded that would help the Oilers. Its hard to know if the calls were made and the Oilers came up short or if they didnt even try.

Sorry Canuck fans but I have to laugh at the Schneider trade. All these months of goalie turmoil in Vancouver and they trade Schneider for a 1st. Canuck fans certainly missed the mark with all the claims of what a great return he would bring.

Poor Louongo. I can't believe how poorly he's been treated and now the Canucks expect him to be the number one goalie and act like nothing's happened. If I was Lou I'd tell them to pound sand and hold firm to a trade request.

Oilers management has left a great deal to be desired but the goalie situation the Canucks faced was created out of incompetence and has been a screw up from the start. All these years of being in contention and coming up short has lead to a downward slide that the Canucks will desperately try to avoid.

Well, If they need the reincarnation of Messier,it will have to come from an internal source. But,yeah.Take the C off Horc and let him play the 3rd line. Not the worst 3C in the league. Better than paying big money to buy him out.

I think people think Bold Moves must mean a top 2 D and a Top Flight Power Forward or something. I dont see it like that at all.

It's Kevin Lowe. It's that whole veteran oilers pedigree they got the wrong ex players running mgmt. Katz must be stupid to ignore all this. Top to bottom they need mgmt like the other teams aside from few other poorly ran teams. You look at the kings, hawks, bruins, wings, even flyers. Now that's how you build good teams. It's almost like oilers have no respect in the trading world. They are also too afraid to pull them and sign the right free agents to asking price contracts unlike the teams that get ahead. Anyways a side note; that Seth jones kid has the worst cockiest attitude. Nashville will have there hands full. That kid thinks his s**t don't stink. Brutal attitude for a young high end draft pick. Better get back at the teams that didn't draft him now. Watch out for Seth jones with a vengeance boys. I hope he gets kicked out of the NHL if he keeps that attitude nobody will want him. Losers have that attitude

And the trades that were there appeared to suck. Can you imagine giving up the 7th + Paajarvi + Klefbom or whatever for Schneider?
