Seriously, the Canucks did pretty good. Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk in the 1st round. Hate is such a compliment, keep hating its an honor and I salute you my fellow Edmonton counterparts. Hockey is competitive and Canucks are the most hated team by other teams fans in the league, what an awesome status for a Canuck fan to know they get into your heads so much, its awesome. As for the Oilers, this was an awesome pick by them. Despite the belief out there that the Oilers are stacked on Defense, they arnt, they just have a bunch of puck movers that arnt NHL ready. They basically have no one like Nurse. Nurse is a stud defenseman. Oilers should persue local Jonny Boychuk aswell. There probably with the exception of Fistric has the softest D in the league. Great pick by MacT today. - gunner2233
Don't misinterpret things; the Canucks are the most hated team because of what they say, how they act, what the do OFF THE ICE. ON the ice....they don't scare anyone. THey are hated because of the cocky fans and the Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa BS after the whistles and off the ice. Anyway, it's over. If I were Luongo I'd still stay away from that sinking ship. |

I think the Canucks got great picks in Horvat and Shinkaruk. But the audacity of dealing Schneider without speaking to Luongo to see if he was cool to stay in Vancouver before making the deal was perhaps one of the biggest blunders in hockey history. - Maxbone

That's putting it nicely... Before today I thought he was just a super homer. Now I totally question what he knows about hockey. - jribout
Nope. He's not really a homer...he's super passionate which is good. I wish the other bloggers were half as enthusiastic as he is. But not often are things simply "okay" with Cloutier. He likes extremes. Is that a fair characterization Clouts? |

So your Gillis and you have ZERO offers for Luongo and the owner says no buyout... You have not received much good in terms of offer for Schneider and with a few minutes on your clock you get a sudden offer from NJ that is better than anything else....
I guess you call Schneider and Luongo and go over you limit and default the pick.... |

Funny...I never heard what either of those teams offered. I heard what the Canucks asked...but no one reported with any confidence what Gillis was offered.
Maybe you have info all the Insiders don't have? - djamon
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 7h
4 teams in the end on Schneider, including Calgary, Edmonton and NJ. Asking price was higher for Flames and Oilers (division)
Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug 8h
Told asking price for Schneider to Oilers was the 7, a 2nd and a good young player. High price to trade within division, Oil passed.
If they didn't get greedy, something tells me they'd get more than a 9th. |

To be fair - I think all things being relatively equal Chicago preferred moving Bolland to Toronto over any other team given that he's from the GTA. Bolland was a major contributor over the two Cup runs. He was an exemplary Hawk a heart and soul player that is being moved for no other reason than cap constraints. I have to assume the move to Toronto was a "thank you" trade. |

Worst draft I've watched for the Oilers in a long time. Man did MacT ever fall on his face. Even when shown a little opportunity.....he blew it! See - giving away second round picks - and not grabbing the next available goalie when the one you wanted was taken and the chance was there Jarry or Comrie! Holy Sh*t......MacGregor and Mactavish are stupid! - Rhino
I agree. Nurse will probably be a good dman for us for a long time. Then what? We didn't address any of our other needs. We traded down twice giving us nothing. We didn't get any of our players traded that need to be gone, nor did we address any of our needs. After the first pick, I am really doubtful we have an NHL player with the rest.
I have no faith in MacT's ability to do anything he promised. I hope we have one more weak year so Lowe will be gone. We will never get a good GM until he is gone. |

In that we agree.
And, also, with EDM - CAL being back. I look forward to the rivalry being back. May not win much the next 2 yrs, but after that, both teams are poised to have a revival of sorts. |

This is vaudeville. If I was writing the same passive, pointless, point-of-fact stuff real reporters try to do, no one would read it.

Lol...so you agree with me. For all any of us know, NJ's 9th pick was the best offer they got.
Clouts is right...he should have run this by Luongo during the week when it got leaked that they were accepting offers on Schneider. This has a real chance of getting ugly. But the trade he made for Schneider is proof that when you have no leverage, you get fleeced in trades. |

What's likely difficult here is that Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver all got really good players (here specifically once that Cloutier liked). And he wasn't wrong: Gauthier, Lazar, Monahan, Horvat and Shinkaruk could all have helped the Oilers in their own way.
I think Nurse will too, but it's a tough pill to swallow in terms of talking poop on the interwebs. |

I agree with this point, but it just looks at today. Gillis put himself in this position. Also, it's not ONLY Gillis that has totally mismanaged this, it's the GM, Ownership, coach, and all of the cancerous selfish attitudes of the players there.
Torterella may indeed be the very first pro coach to actually QUIT! lmao |

Oilers did good we cant get anyone to come here so the draft is are answer till we start doing good. Hence why no deals were made cause il put a million dollars on it that they tried, its frustrating but that's life in oilerville. No gm could make players come here, you guys want quality players your going to have to give quality back which they don't want to. As much as I hate it I say keep hemsky and horcoff for another year cause we aren't getting crap back for them. |

Agree 100%. THese are all great kids in the top 20 or so. Attitude, work ethic, and pedigree are so important. Nurse was an extremely low risk pick and will likely pay dividends well into the future. |
