TSN gave the Oilers a B+ for this draft.

Cloutier called it a miserable failure.

Who you gonna believe???

Not sure about you, but Craig Button really moved up in my books. He talks with lots of confidence and knowledge about picks. Even Bobby Mac passed to him.

McGuire, well you can't drop any lower.

Gillis must go.

You're preaching to the choir.... totally botched the Corey Schneider/Roberto Luongo situation.

That was Craig Button giving that rating. I wouldn't exactly be hanging my hat on what he says either.

Id certainly give it more weight than the opinion of Derpy McHurr on Hockeybuzz.com

Button is probably the second dumbest hockey person in the history of hockey... Behind Milbury.

yeah, only real disappointment was being linked with trades and then having them not going through. thought we might swap some picks for NHL help. but that's fine. sometimes the deals just aren't there. i'm glad we didn't pay a premium for guys that we probably shouldn't be paying a premium for.

I and a few others on here having been calling Nurse for months. In 3 years he will be outstanding. Big, Mobile, smart, great attitude and works hard. On the ice and in the gym.

I had 2 options for the 7th pick:

1. Pick Nurse
2. trade it for a legit top pairing Dman. Not sure if anyone noticed but there have been exactly ZERO dicussions of any top pairing guys even being available. Or any serious negotiations. Teams that have them lock them up.

Everyone expects a home run from MacT. I'll settle for a bunch of base hits.

Good analogy. A great on base % will beat out a couple home runs any day of the week.

You're funny. Go back to your board and tell Gillis, Gilman and Aquilinni how to run your franchise.

I think Iggysbff may be Kevin Lowe. ...and, by the way, calling Cloutier an idiot makes you a bigger idiot for constantly reading his blogs and trolling his comments.

Generally speaking that's how the draft goes.

So no I don't know what you mean.

- Lahey

Like I said, he is not as safe a pick as a forward would have been. He is less NHL ready than some of the other picks. He was -15 in the year for a defensive minded dman. Not every draft is like that. Players behind Nurse will play next year. I like nurse. I am just about to post a blog with all the picks we made and their analysis. Just so it is on one page.

Who cares if guys are ready sooner. That's not the whole point of the draft.

But Button is still retarded. "EVERY PLAYER IS DIRECTLY COMPARABLE TO THIS HALL OF FAMER AND IF HE HITS HIS MINIMUM CIELING HE WILL BE A FRANCHISE PLAYER" "I GAVE THIS KID A 5/5 ON COMPETE LEVEL"

McGuire was the wurst. There were a few times where he interrupted with something so dumb that Ferraro and Duthie and everyone else just straight up ignored him.

Did you know he's still employed by the Flames in some capacity? And gave them an A+ for a draft with at least 2, if not 3, completely derpy picks.

Oilers draft grades:

CBSsports gave the Nurse pick a B+ surrounded by an A for Calgary and an A- for Buffalo.

SI says this of Nurse: After taking a forward with their last five top picks, the Oilers finally gambled on the sort of big, physical defender who can anchor a shutdown pairing. Nurse will do his best work in his own zone, where his nasty edge will make life miserable for attacking forwards. He makes great reads and is a dynamic skater, so there's some thought that his offensive game is coming around. He's probably still a couple of years away from skating in the NHL.

Sporting News give oilers an A-, with this to say: Darnell Nurse was the right pick at No. 7, and Anton Slepyshev is worth watching in the third round. Fourth-round pick Aidan Muir, from Victory Honda Midget of the MWEHL, sounds very possibly made up.

Bleacher Report says: The Edmonton Oilers have finally improved their minor league system with the Oklahoma City Barons being one of the better teams in the AHL for a few seasons now.
The Oilers opted to take Darnell Nurse with their No. 7 pick. The Sault Ste. Marie defenceman is huge and mobile. He plays the game with an edge and he should become a top-four defenceman in a few seasons.
Edmonton then added some centers in Marc-Olivier Roy and Bogdan Yakimov. These players are not going to be joining the big club any time soon, but there is certainly potential there. Yakimov is 6’4” and 201 pounds. He has the size the Oilers really need down the middle.
Hopefully Nail Yakupov can help draw him to North America. The Oilers continued to add more depth forwards in the later rounds.

Grade: B

So TSN didn't release one, right?
