heard ristolainen is one nasty player with size and offensive abilities. the one thing i liked about nurse is the guy is a hardworker. kid is in great shape and physique. also comes from a family of athletes. i would have been happy with either one. i was leaning more towards nichuskin though. mac-t did say it was either nurse or nichushkin.

yeah...i would have traded up on that 37th pick to 35th and grabbed fucale. don't know what it would cost, but i would have inquired about it and grabbed fucale and mac-t was after him and as soon as canadiens snagged him, lombardi and mac-t shook hands to edm trading down.

I'm glad we didn't pick nichuskin. All of his highlights (I know YouTube scouting is bad) are him trying to skate through the team. He forces the puck in the net sometimes and shows decent moves other times. He is an absolute beast but seems to lack vision and there are questions on his hockey sense. Could just be a puck hog. But ya, very enticing package as he looks just like Nash.

If my Oiler fan friends are feeling sad...

Here is a video to cheer you up. I know she gets a bad rap, but this woman is a smorgasbord all by herself ... 33-36 second mark, Oh man.

Thnks man. Some of the Oilers fans are feeling butthurt, but they are mostly just the unrealistic "It worked on NHL13" types who think Mac T should have absolutely nailed 3 killer trades in 1 day. There was probably nothing there for him at a fair price.

People have such a boner for Coburn when he is,in all reality, pretty mediocre. I don't think he is any better than Petry. He's an inferior skater, for sure. Not saying he's not a legit top 4 D, just not worth more than a 2nd and a prospect, or a roster player like Smid straight up.
- Jeropotato

He is Smid with better offense. I felta 2nd and Potter or Marincin/Gernat before the draft.

I like the idea of adding him... making the top4 Petry, Schultz, Coburn and Smid (or another pickup, or maybe Belov).

I think a lot of people/fan bases are wondering WTF?

Free Agency hasn't started yet and neither had the buyout period. It was a very slow trade day compared to what was expected I guess.

I think we all should have known better. Most teams are in a wait and see mode. there are still a lot of unknowns about what might be available this off-season.

I know from a Leafs fan perspective, another 5 year Center project, and a new 3rd line centerman are not exactly what we hoped for to address the team's needs.

As do I, but people start throwing around 1st round picks I kinda think we are cashing in all our chips on a fools bet.

i see where your coming from. the knock on him questionable vision, selfish greedy character, lack of defensive game...add on the russian factor if he doesn't make the big team, he flees to khl. he says he wants to play in the nhl rather than khl, like yakupov. regardless mac-t says he got their man.

Bolland was a good pick up though. He was hurt alot, but when healthy, and in the playoff's, he is money, for sure. Gotta think Toronto was the one Team that would get him at that price, seeing as how Bolland was a very good soldier for Chicago, and wanted to send him somewhere he wanted to go, being a proud GTA boy and all.

yeah, philly was def not getting edm's 7th overall for coburn. schneider stood a chance on snagging edm's 7th overall, which i don't know what other side deal edm has to send dubnyk packing. i think if edm got schneider, dubnyk goes to philly for coburn.

Hey Richie, if your attempt at being apologetic is calling people "stupid", well than you might want to save your breath next time you're feeling the need to say sorry.

Second, once again you have no idea what the Oilers intentions or possible involvment was in any of the trades that you mentioned. How do you know who the Oilers talked to or made offers to? How do you know Clutterbuck wasn't on their radar?

As it stands, I think the Clutterbuck trade was genius by Fletcher. Clutterbuck and a pick for Nino is by all standards a pretty damn good trade in the eyes of Wild fans. Even though Nino is still unproven at the NHL level, Clutterbucks full potential has already been realized and the Islanders and the rest of the league know exactly what they're going to get from him. A physical presence that averages about 15 goals a season that will likely be a 3rd liner for NY. Nino has the potential to be a top 6 player and will most likely get the chance to prove himself with the Wild in one of those spots where he didn't get that chance with the Isles.

Nino is a top prospect in the NHL, being you think the Oilers could have made a better trade for Clutterbuck, just curious about who in your infinite wisdom do you think the Oil would have been prepared to part ways with in order to make a similar deal?

1) I really like the nurse pick. First pass, puck moving, skating, shutdown and toughness. Everything we needed in a dman. I hope we develop him right. He needs to improve his shot though, he has a serious muffin from the point.

2) was pissed we didn't get fucale, Zykov and carrier but glad to see it turned into a skilled Russian In sleppy with size.

The thing with Nurse is we probably won't know how good a pick it was for a year or two. It was a gamble as there was Rist and Zardov who might also be good dmen. I like Nurse better from what I have seen of him but how that translates to the NHL or even AHL is unsure. Forwards like Val who is already playing in the KHL was a safer choice. We need nurse to bring his current game, even if he wrist shots most of the time like Schultz, to the NHL and we need him to be ready in 2-3 years. Otherwise he is going to develop too late to help with our young guys when they need him most.

We still have holes to fill and I think that is where MacT will either win people's support or lose it forever. We need a goalie, backup or starter it doesn't matter but we Bunz nor Roy can bring their game to the NHL so this need is a simple fact. Smith, Backstrom, Schnieder and Bernier are gone. This leaves us trading with Buffalo/St.Louis or in a mad scramble for the few UFA's out there. I think Nabokov is probably the target that makes the most sense but there are still a lot of teams out there that need someone so he might not be worth the salary he is offered.

Also people are going to be upset but I think the Oil are going to try to get a big name UFA and they are going to pay too much for him. I really think Horton is their target and it will cost us at least 6 to get him. I am thinking 6.5 for a few years at least. Not what you want to pay for a second line winger with concussion history. However MacT knows he has to do something and we need a replacement for our second line if Hemsky is indeed going to go. Paajarvi could probably do it but I think they will keep him in case the Philly trade comes back to life.

If MacT can get us a NHL backup or starter, a top 6 guy and a Dman I would be surprised. However it is possible and it would put us in a position to get a playoff spot. Filling the third line will be easy. I still think Antropov is the guy to center it. He brings what we need at 34 years old. If paajarvi goes then we will need another player but again there are lots of guys to pick from (Nystrom, Stalberg, cleary... those types).

Taking a guy who's already stated NHL or KHL, no to AHL is safer?

We shouldn't have been going into the draft hoping for anyone to make this team next year.

Read they didn't want to trade within in Division, wouldn't have been shocked if that was to read conference.
